This sounds like my brother-in-law. He was with us for Thanksgiving. He

is at 6'2 " and at least 300 lbs, most of it in his stomach and chest.

Just for grins I tested him 2 hours after Thanksgiving meal - 305 - but

do you think I can convince him he is diabetic? Nope! I even caught him

a few times in the morning before he had eaten anything. Usually 180

-210. Still no luck convincing him. I'm trying to talk him into seeing

the doc, but so far he is in denial. We've started telling him (in good

nature of course) that he is DD (which normally stands for

Developmentally Delayed). In his case it means " Diabetic Denial! "

I finally started telling him that IF he was lucky, he'd die quickly of

a heart attack, but not to count on it. I told him that he most likely

would go blind, lose his kidneys and become a double amputee first. I

was trying to be gentle with him. :o) That finally made him think,

but he has yet to do anything about it. After that talk, I told him that

I would not keep harping on him. I know from my own experience that that

doesn't work.

LOL, I'm so glad you were " gentle " Rick, it was good of you. It's sad that he

won't see a doctor, it will be too late for him if he keeps putting it off.

From what I'm reading, my family history isn't that unusual... it seems many

of our family members have diabetes. When I was diagnosed, I encouraged my

3 sons to be tested... one eventually developed it. I hoped my children

wouldn't be diabetic, as you always hear that it " skips a generation. " My

grandfather was diabetic, but only one out of his 4 children was. Although

my father isn't diabetic, 3 out of 5 of his children are.

My father was type 2 and died from related problems and not doing as he should

in his mid 60s. His mother was type 2 and lived to be 94!!!! I'm type 2 and as

far as I know we are the only ones in the family,

Soy beans (black or green) are different than black beans. I'm OK with some

black beans, but I get a much lower glycemic effect from all soy beans, even

less from the black soy beans.

Too much cheese slows down my postprandial return to normal. It's tricky

finding just right balance. I made a batch of chile last weekend with black

soy beans, black beans, pinto and kidney along with ground turkey. I control

with diet and exercise so I really try to keep my pp rises <140 and my

fasting and before meal levels between 80 - 110.

Thanks Vicki! I must try these as I love tortillas and have been

avoiding them completely.

Yes she was on oral meds and diet control only. In July my BG was running

in the 350s, I started low carb, Atkins and after a month or so was able to

go off meds and my BG is now normal, 90-120,
