I'm reading " Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers " (which is not just

about beer) and came up with what I think is a very good explanation

of why women prefer the fruity, fizzy alcoholic drinks while the men

seem to prefer the harder, drier ones. The book says up 'till the

Middle Ages, brewing was the domain of the women! So probably the

kids got the fizzy, sweet early stages (soda pop), and the woman

drank it at it's best (still a little sweet and fruity, not too much

alcohol - wine cooler) then they tricked the poor men into believing

the dry flat stuff was the prized end product. Tee Hee!

Really, if you've tried home made wine at the " wine cooler " stage,

like 5 days into the fermenting, you might agree that this is the

very best part of the process.

If you liked that one, I also have a theory about why men seem to

need more meat than women - goes back to the hunter/gatherer days.

The women stayed home tending the kids and foraging (kids are good

at foraging!) while the men went off into the wild to hunt. I bet

half the time they had a nice barbeque in the woods, ate all the

meat, then came home, " Sorry honey it got away again. Have a nice

salad? "

And why women overeat when stressed: In many, many cultures,

conquerors got to take the women as plunder, back home to marry or

whatever. So when trouble was brewing, women got hungry. When the

men went off to war, they ate still more. If their men didn't win,

and the conquerors came to carry the women off home with them, gee,

that's a lot of travelling on short rations. The ones who packed on

a few extra pounds from all that stress probably made it in better

shape. :)

No, I haven't been drinking lots of homebrew! Just wanted to offer

a chuckle.
