Guest guest
Dear FORUM, It is very sad to hear this type of incidents repeats in an advanced to state like kerala, the health care professionals need to be sensitized more over according to Indian medical council (professional conduct and Ethics) regulation 2002” http://www.mciindia.org/know/rules/ethics.htm (The Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, and Ethics) Regulations related to the professional conduct, etiquette and ethics were notified in 2002) No physician shall arbitrarily refuse treatment to patient, expect for a good reason, and in the case of an epidemic, the physician should not abandon his duty for fear of contracting the disease himself. " As a member of a professional body, doctors are obligied to follow this conduct failing which, I think the pateint or a friend has every right to complaint this body. The protocl for the treatment of PLHIVs ( I think approved by IMA) madate to take universal precaution. Why health care professionals are not willing to follow this protocl and deceiving their own profession and medical ethics? Guest guest
Dear Forum, Re: /message/7627 This kind of denial of treatment to the HIV victim is practiced not only in kerala but almost everywhere in India. We from Tamil Nadu networking people with HIV/AIDS(TNNP+) in Madurai witness the same almost every day. The common problems here in Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, is when a PLHA discloses his status or is tested positive, he immediately confronts with denial of treatment. If persuaded, they remain rigid and just provide some treatment irrelevant to the complications the patient suffers. To the worst the PLHA are not given admission when required... in case of emergency the treatment and the admission are nowhere to be found even in this well known Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. Are we to blame the ART center? Are we to blame the STD ward? Are we to blame the other Depts/ that PLHA are referred to? Is there not enough doctors to provide treatment for us...? Whom are we to blame? All I know is there are very few dedicated souls for the cause of PLHA and the agony we suffer! What can be done to change this attitude?. This is a deadly epidemic we agree. we being caught in this deadly epidemic wish that none suffersw the same as we do. Being positive network with about 20,000 members we take an oath that we would stand for the cause of a PLHA any where in this world and specially in Tamil Nadu. We believe in this. " We know what a person thinks, not when he tells us what he thinks, but by his actions. " and would fight till the actions and the reaction to a PLHA is favourable and acceptable to us. With empathy on behalf of PLHA and their networks Karunanidhi.G Tamilnadu PLHA Network e-mail: <tnnpplus@...>
