, thanks for the links. We have just recently started reading

about SCD from an earlier post. I started searching through the NN

messages to see what has been said about it already. I just finished

reading message 77980 - it's got to be near a record for length of one

message (thanks Suze and ).

My wife gets intermittent sinus headaches, nasal blockage, and stomach

and intestinal bloating and pain. When she has had asthma, it has

usually been with phlegm and sometimes at night, probably related to

GERD, although with our improving diet she has not had any attacks

lately. She still smokes and take asthma and allergy medications but

she would like to quit. She is very sensitive to smells and finds

many to be bothersome. Musk odor and MSG give her intense headaches

and she never liked aspartame (which is just as well).

I was thinking about trying soaked oats to make porridge in a crock

pot - but if we go SCD that will be out. I was also thinking about

making some mayonaise from coconut and/or olive oil. I wonder if I

leave out all the egg whites, will it still taste good (so my wife may

be able to eat it with her egg allergy)?

Can she have yolks? Here's an egg white free mayo. Below that is an

eggless mayo made with avocado.

" The traditional French mayonnaise uses no egg white. Raw egg white is

not the best food to eat, imho. Try this adapted from Joy of Cooking:

Whisk until frothy:

3 egg yolks (fresh from pastured yard hens)

Whisk in:

1/2 teaspoon each salt, dry mustard, lemon juice

dash cayenne

Whisk in while pouring very slowly, drops at a time:

1/2 cup olive oil

Whisk in:

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons pickle juice (or kraut juice or whey)

Whisk in while pouring very slowly, drops at a time:

1/2 cup olive oil (or sunflower oil for a lighter taste)

Refrigerate and enjoy.

Deanna "

Just switch out the oil for this mayo:

" AVOCADO MAYONNAISE

_*Courtesy of http://www.vegparadise.com/

Enjoy this wholesome and easy sandwich spread that wears many hats. Use

it as a salad dressing on your greens or enjoy it as a binder and flavor

booster on your favorite potato, bean, or grain salad.

1 medium or large avocado

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1/4 t. salt or to taste

Pinch of cayenne pepper

1/4 C. (59 ml) expeller pressed vegetable oil

1. Wash the avocado and cut it in half. Scoop out the flesh and put

it into the blender.

2. Add lemon juice, salt, and cayenne pepper and blend together.

3. With machine running, add vegetable oil slowly. You many have to

stop the machine several times to redistribute ingredients. Puree

to a smooth creamy mixture. Makes 3/4 cup (177 ml).

NOTE: Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator. Keeps

well without discoloration for 5 to 6 days. "

I'd get her OFF the milk--but that's me. What she needs is

ginger--lots and lots of ginger. If you make the milk how I said, and

add ginger and maybe a little honey (if she's not a sugar fiend)that

should be okay. In my world, anyway, which is influenced by Ayurveda.

(That particular bit of advice may arouse some ire, here.)

But wean her off the milk, man. Try the coconut tonic, maybe. And add

ginger to...EVERYTHING! Ginger tea every moning, ginger beer, ginger

in stir fry. slices/shavings of fresh ginger just before meals.

Also, pick up a neti pot or sinus rinse if you don't have one already:

http://www.neilmed.com/

(not a controvesial item)

Also, will she switch to American Spirit cigs in the interim?

No additives. They also make an organic tobacco cigarette.

(this means war!)

I'd suggest beet kvass as your first ferment. It would be good for

your wife's condition--taken after meals. Recipe is in NT, but I'd

leave out the salt, or maybe just a teaspoon or so. You could add

some ginger to it.

~~~,
Have you discovered Onibasu yet? This is the archived messages of
Eleven of our health discussion groups - Native Nutrition being one of
them. Just type in your word or phrase, choose which groups and hit
Search. I usually choose NN, DiscussingNT (which I am a co-moderator
for) WAPF Chapterleaders and RawDairy - and Microbial Nutrition if my
search is for something dealing with fermenting. This is available to
all of us, yet I doubt that many use it. http://onibasu.com/
Just don't let yourself fall into the trap of too much info too soon.
Over on DiscussingNT we use this phrase, " Baby Steps " That being said,
I remember spending hundreds of hours reading posts and learning as
much as I could. Personally, I started with Coconut Oil and about 6
months later found a source of raw milk. Jumped in with Kefir and
Kombucha in the same month. Another 6 months and I bought a grain
mill. Lacto fermenting was the next step. Point is - baby steps.
Our poor health didn't happen in a week or two - it's been building
for many years for most of us. Chances are that regaining our health
will take some time. Just enjoy the journey and celebrate each
improvement.
