I am now fermenting (sprouting) wheat grains for the Rejuvelac which he recommends. But instead of tossing the used grains in the compost pit, I'm going to plant them in pots for my cat. He has suddenly started chomping on my houseplants, some of which are very nice. Not poison, but my favorites. Pat in CA
Guest guest
Was talking to my Mom today and she said that she'd heard/read recently something about fermenting beans - which would give them more nutrients. She thought it was with acidophilus, but couldn't remember. She also never found out the amount of time and whether or not it was at room temperature or in the fridge. Also not sure if this was a pre-soak or after the beans were cooked. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I told her I'd ask on a few of my groups. Thanks, Rhonda

Fermenting beans is a long-established custom in some places (can you spell soy sauce?). The article was mainly about reducing flatulence, but I'd imagine you get more nurtrients from fermented beans too (and more of the lectins are disabled). http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/04/060426080023.htm -- Heidi
Guest guest
Another type of fermented beans is natto [fermented soybeans]. http://www.gaia21.net/natto/making.htm There are a few other kinds of fermented beans but their names escape my mind at the moment. That's probably what she'd heard about. Rhonda
