Guest guest
Hi nne, I guess I'm one of the " lucky " ones in that BCPs have stopped my bleeding. I'm on a low estrogen-high progesterone pill called Loestrin FE 1.5/30. I take it continuously (skip the placebo week) so that I don't get my period at all. It's worked fairly well -- I only had a few days of light bleeding last week I think because I had a really really bad day and I let the stress get to me. I also ate a lot of chocolate and cheesecake a few days prior. I am experiencing some side effects from taking the pills this way. I've gained some weight, my stomach is pooching out more, I have continuous breast tenderness, and I think I can feel my fibroid (4cm, half submucosal/intramural) growing. However, it might grow just the same without the pills. I hope that Senate bill gets passed so scientists will study these things. My doctor prescribed taking this particular pill in this way so that I can build my blood counts back up. I was severly anemic a few months ago and couldn't afford to have a period at all. I hope to get UAE done soon. I will stop taking the pills after UAE. There have been several prior posts regarding taking BCPs. You'll find more opinions/successes/failures when you search the archives. Look at BCPs, and also search for posts where women have controlled their bleeding through diet changes. I hope your gyn is helpful! Best wishes, Ellen > > > I'd like to know what experiences you all have had > > > with birth control prescribed to lessen menstrual bleeding.
