Dear All,

Re: /message/7220

I fully endorse the concerns of Umaji. I feel couseling is not only training of

few months, it comes with concerns and feelings and needs much more than the

training. The aptitude test is must before we engagae counselors-whatever set

up,may it be private or government.

I know in Amritsar-One counselor Sumit sharma has all the praise from majority

patients including females-the other counselor has to learnmany thingswhich she

can do even from her collague.

The other point is the availability and confidentiality.

Few years ago in the International AIDS conference held at Delhi, a paper by

Ravi saini et al was presented highlighting the imporatance with reference to

the STD's. It was clearly brought out in that study that STD patients were

enrolled more with Private STD speciliasts than those in The STD clinic run by

the Govt. Medical college and the reason was simple -confidentiality and

availability.

Saini and myself based on that study had suggested to have 24X7 facility for STD

patients like an emergency. HIV is another STD and needs same treatment.
