Participants will learn about strategies and resources for microbicides advocacy PATH, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) and Global Campaign for Microbicides (GCM) Welcome you to New HIV/STI Prevention Technologies on the Horizon A symposium at the 8th ICAAP, Colombo, Sri Lanka 22nd August, 2007 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This symposium will address the challenges related to researching New Prevention Technologies (NPT). It will explore the need for learning lessons from the introduction of existing health technologies, community mobilization and joint policy advocacy among groups working on HIV and sexual and reproductive health in Asia and the Pacific. Background A number of new HIV prevention technologies - such as Microbicides, PREP, HSV suppression, male circumcision and an AIDS vaccine - are either currently in clinical trials or are being considered for introduction. The HIV prevention field still faces challenges, including developing and strengthening infrastructure to conduct clinical trials and paying attention to gender equity and community perspectives when facilitating access and introduction.
