Providing sufficient anti-HIV medicine at district level

Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2007 14:06:43 -0700

The Minister of Health has just signed Decision no. 20/2006/QD-BYT on

approval of the national action program on mother-to-child

transmission prevention in the 2006-2010 period.

Under the decision, the target set by 2010 is to control the rate of

children infected with HIV from their mother to under 10 percent and

the rate of pregnant women living with HIV to under 0.5 percent; 100

percent of pregnant women infected with HIV and their children will

be treated with HIV preventative measures.

To achieve the above target, the program will provide sufficient anti-

HIV medicines from the central to district levels; care for children

infected with and affected by HIV; increase access to antiretroviral

medicines cooperating with the ARV program; treat opportunistic

infections and provide medicines to treat opportunistic infections

for mothers and children infected with HIV.
