Guest guest
Dear FORUM, /message/7610 It is very strange to hear the news on organising conventions against sex education in this century, of course HIV is not the contribution of India but who deliberately created this? There are many new diseases appear in the world through various reasons like mutation of micro organisms, genetical changes etc. we have to think this is a challenge before humanity instead of blaming west. In the advent of HIV disease, majority Indians believed that this wont affect India since our society is disciplined and doesn’t practice pre or extra marital sex, but this has proved other wise. Later some of us said, AIDS is the wages for sin. We can see this type of myths and misconceptions throughout human history. In the past society ostracised lepers, harijans, women and many more and the history repeats as time passes in other forms. Denial of sexual health information or the abstinence –only approach to sexual education interferes with fundamental rights, including the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all Kind and the right to the highest attainable standard of health. When I was giving session in a high school in one state, one girl said menstruation is bleeding from kidney! Sex education doesn’t teach children how to do sex but to educate about their body changes, emotional differences and helping them to cope up in a transformation stage. We have to develop the syllabus based on our need and cultural standards. In India it may not be necessary to impart condom education in schools. However young people need to know about their body and sexual organs, that would help them to see world in a proper way.
