Guest guest
Dear Dr. Mathews, Re: /message/7587 The statistics are clear: more than 80 per cent of the women living today with HIV or on ART to prevent any AIDS related diseases in India have reported only ONE partner -- their husbands! More than two decades into the epidemic, nearly 70 per cent of the infections are still among males or men. The conclusion is clear: it is the human male who is the vector both in the transmission of HIV and also the most infected of the two sexes. Hence they are a distinct danger to the female of the species or women. I do not see any harm in Renuka Chadhary pointing this out to make it clear who is the more dangerous of the species just as Dr.Ross had pointed out in the 19th century that the female anopheles mosquito was the main vector in transmssion of the malaria germ. If you are a chauvinist or a male who is insensitive to the problems of women then you can deny this logic. Otherwise agree with the venerable Minister, irritating and blunt though she is. warm regards Ashok Row kavi MSM/TG desk UNAIDS, Delhi E-MAIL: <arowkavi@...>
