Wendi - Welcome to our wonderful group. I had surgery 5 1/2 weeks ago. I'm

down 27 pounds. That's not as much as others lose in the same time frame, but

I'm just glad I'm losing. I haven't reached the point yet where I am full of

energy and feeling great a lot of the time. Looking forward to that. In the

mean time, I sleep a lot, and take it one day at a time. I know that the energy

should kick in sometime soon. Good luck with your surgery approval. Take care.

I use most of her vitamins as they are very competitive in price and she

knows what we need and I do use the super calcium . I don't do the b-12 dots

I think a shot works best for me

Hi !

Welcome to the group! We are practically neighbors. I live in San Pedro.

Had my surgery with Dr. Owens at Torrance Memorial Hospital.

If you start supplementing now you may not loss your hair. I'm 4 months out

and luckily haven't had that problem.

If you ever want to chat let me know. We can always talk on the phone, too.

Congrats on your surgery date!

Hugs,

in California :)

Thank you ,

I must say the more I learn, the more excited I get! I thought I would be

nervous about having this done but, I have found that writing a journal, has

become the best therapy for me and it actually helps me realize my fears

which have nothing to do with the surgery. I have a lot of support from my

son, husband, family and friends which I know helps. The only problem is

that although they are supportive, not one REALLY knows what you are going

through. Finding this group will help tremendously!

RNY - stand for Roux En Y Gastric Bypass, Open means had the surgery with a full

open incision, not laparscopically with the 5 bandaid incisions.

Steph,

Where do you live? I had my surgery in Fresno with Dr. Felix and I really

like him. After I got approved by my insurance I had surgery within 6 weeks.

Depending on where you live it might be easier to see someone here in the

valley.

Steph - Each doctor has their own preference, but some do both. My surgeon does

the lap surgeries, but they take him a long time to do, like 4 1/2, 5 hours.

The open surgery took 90 minutes. I didn't want to be under the anestesia for 5

hours. So we went with the open. Plus, with my previous surgeries(2

c-sections, 1 open gallbladder) it probably would have turned into an open

procedure anyways. You'll have to find out what your surgeon has in mind.

Thanks , I just hope I don't end up having too many of those " last

meals. " I sure don't want to gain back the weight I have lost, I don't want

to jeopardize my surgery.

Hi,

If you are contemplating an ablation, then yes the doctor may require

you to stop coumadin treatments about a week before the procedure.

To continue to protect you during the time you will be off coumadin,

you (as was the case with me) will probably be put on lovenox shots,

twice a day. The shots provide you the protection you need, but

don't have the long lasting effects that coumadin has.

Bruce

> I believe it was Debbie that asked what if someone in afib needs

surgery. I was also wondering. If you are on Coumadin or even

aspirin, it has to be stopped for about 5 days or a week. Do we risk

a stroke to have surgery?

Hi Bruce,

Did you personally have any surgery done?

For my rotator cuff tear I recently consulted with a surgeon, who, of

course, recommends surgery. So far I know that I would have to get

off Coumadin several days before and after surgery. He did advise to

discuss the Coumadin question with my Cardiologist though. But since

I haven't made up my mind, I have yet to ask my Cardio.
