The way my previous dr (the one I liked) explained it is that the follicles kind of race, and whichever one develops first " wins " and becomes the one. It is possible to o from the same side for many months in a row, then suddenly o from the other side one month. There is also a (very minimal) chance that the left tube can pick up from the right side, and vice versa. However, it is not something to rely on. Did this help any? I hope so. Guest guest
Shamiso, Hi honey. I hope all goes well on your LAP Monday! I'll be pulling for you. Tht does sound like a delimma you are facing. Even a familar one, because I am trying to decide the same thing. With only having one tube and the other being possibly damaged, I think I would go with IVF, but that is just what I would do. Guest guest
Tasha, Welcome to the list. I am biased toward the diet, as it has been a miracle for us. 's seizures are reduced by 95% and he is off all seizure medicine. Getting him off the medicine has been worth it for us, but with the reduction in seizures, our lives are more like a " normal " family. Not to mention how much better feels. He was also a picky eater, but surprised us by adapting to the diet very well. There is lots of ways to make the diet appetizing (it ain't all butter and mayo). Once again, welcome to the list. Guest guest
Hi Tasha and welcome to our group. The first thing that struck me about your post was that klonipan was preventing sleep. I think klonipan is a brand name of a drug called clonazepam and, if so, it is the same as what we call Rivotril and is a very sedating drug in most circumstances (I stand to be corrected here, if anyone knows different) I find it interesting to hear of how different people react in different ways to the same drugs. Our Hannah (4.5yrs) has used clonazepam since she was a few months old, but I am not sure that it sedates her. On the other hand it does not seem to keep her awake. We have tried to wean it 3 times and ran into trouble each time with withdrawal seizures. Lamictal helped for a while, but then its effectiveness declined and its wean caused many severe seizures. Glad she is totally off it now, and it was great to see the improved awareness when it was weaned. If you can avoid it, then think very carefully about using Lamictal. The diet has a far better chance of being effective than any medication at this point, esp if a number of drugs have been tried and failed. As the parent of a child who is totally tube fed I cannot emphasize how easy the diet is to tube feed. I know the decision to have a gtube placement is a huge one, but if you do choose this option the diet will be a cinch to do. Even w/o a gtube I would think that the diet is worth a shot before considering surgical options for seizure control. In the end you have to weigh the pros and cons regarding how much food would be eaten, or not eaten, the risks of surgery, and the need to reduce seizures. I'd be inclined to try the diet first and see how well it is tolerated, then perhaps consider a gtube. I understand its easy for me to say this from the point of view of a parent whose child already had a gtube placed well before the diet started, but I hope you can reach a decision soon. Hannah was never able to eat enough to maintain health and so the diet would not be possible for her without the gtube. I do believe that we would have considered a gtube to enable her to try the keot diet, as her epilepsy is severe and not well controlled. Six drugs failed to help and the diet has given far better control than any of the drugs. It halved the number of sz's we were seeing each day, and has allowed us to totally wean one of the three meds she was on at the start of the diet. I dont think Hannah will ever be med free, but at least we now can reasonably expect to reduce the meds to a minimum. Let us know what you decide Tasha. Look forward to hearing from you. Guest guest
Logan's experience with Klonopin is about the same as Tasha is experiencing. As we increased the drug Logan became hyper to a point of being completely out of control. He would not sleep or eat. Lucky for us we were in the hospital and was able to stop it cold turkey. He is on tranxene which is in the same category but have had better luck with doing a half dose reduction rather than going slower. I can't give you any answers on the gtube but from what I have heard is that if it is an option it is a huge help. Good luck, Take care, Kalii Mom to Logan 4 (ketokid since 07/01, seizure free) and big brother Cody 8. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Those calories sound high. weighed 65 pounds when he started the diet. He was eight years old. He had gained weight when he was on Tegretol...our most disliked medication. We started him on 1200calories/day....400/meal. A year later he weighed 52 pounds. Now we're at a good place. He is at 1500 calories/day, and maintaining at 55 pounds. We have really followed 's appetite. He has very rarely complained about being hungry. When he was at a higher ratio, he sometimes complained about being too full. It worked for us then to lower the ratio a bit. takes the Bugs Bunny vitamins and Calcium pills. It is the amount. She has never eaten this much food. By the time I get one meal down her, it is time to start the next. I think they have overcalculated for her. She wieghs 29 pounds now. Maybe she should do two meals a day. I dont know. She loved to eat now she hates it. I have threatened her with everything I can think of. She tries to eat ,but half way through she starts saying Im full. My tummy hurts. Thats when the battle begins. If you can help me please e-mail or I will call any where to talk to one of you. Guest guest
DEAR JESSICA: Do you have a good keto team supporting you? To me, the calories do sound high- is 8 years old 50 pounds and eats 1280 calories per day. The lethargy can be common at the start-but I think her ketones are quite high. Some kids do not need 16, as well as others actually do better between 4 and 8-but this is not always the case. My first question is will your dietician lower the calories-SLOWLY-unless they are looking for weight gain? I would really get on their case to help you out here. Why not split the meals into 4 to 6 smaller meals spread evenly thru the day. Use whipping cream in lieu of butter. You can whip and freeze pops etc. I am going to try to attach a meal planner for you-I have never done this before-but I know that their are many others who can help you out if I fail. I hope you have EXCEL:-) You need it to run the meal planner. I give a calcium/magnesium supplement in pill form-is this what you mean by you'd rather give a pill or did you mean AED's vs the Diet. The first month on the diet is such a tremendous adjustment for you both. The younger the child the faster the adjustment. Please hang in there and push them to help you out. I have found that if I didn't push I got nothing-so go get'em Hugs Diane help Hello, I need help. We are just starting this keto diet. I wrote earlier that sydney was so pale and sleepy. Guest guest
, Nick wouldn't eat his food either. Our dietitian had us on 875 cal. We are now down to 650 cal. Nick is 20 months, 23 pounds and 33 inches long but he is not active. I gave him 6 meals a day just to make them smaller portions. I am now doing 5 meals a day because it works better with our schedule. I use an excel meal planner I got for free on the internet. I usually change his meals around according to how well he is eating. His total grams can be any where from just 32 to 87 just depending on the food choices. I sometimes puree 5 meals together in the blender. We are weaning him off depakote now and he is eating much better. I hope you can find the right mix. I know the menu's my dietitian made out were not palatable. There are so many possibilities in meal planning that I am sure you can find something that would work for Sydney. I see someone has already attached the meal planner. It is great. Dianna mom to 20 months Keto fed since 6-2001 Fritzenschaft wrote: Hello, I need help. We are just starting this keto diet. Guest guest
How is Sydney with the cream? When isn't feeling well or is just plain fiesty, it's hard to get her to drink the cream (which I do mix with the Cal/Mag/Zinc II). Sometimes you have to play with what works. I have meals that look " big " and meals that look " small. " You could try the peanut butter cookie recipe in the files. That doesn't look like much food -- but gives a treat, too. I calculate it with diluted cream -- for cookies and milk. Her calories actually do seem a little high. is 6 years old and weighs 40 pounds -- she's on 1100 calories. Also, in the beginning it was hard to get to finish, too -- same when she's sick. The fat just plain doesn't feel good to their systems -- think of when we " binge " and eat something high fat. . .I feel really bloated and yucky afterwards (although going down, cheesecake is graet!). Then she went through a phase where she was done eating in about a minute flat and begging for more. That's closer to where we're at now -- but I use a lot of lettuce to fill her up. Good luck. . . and keep asking questions.--D ===== DeEtte -- Mom to (, 6, keto-kid since 1/01, med-free, seizures greatly reduced) and (, 4), sdale, AZ " I know God would never give me more than I can handle. . .I just wish he didn't trust me so much. Guest guest
Hi, Per Freeman's book, page 131, calories for a 4 year old are 65-68 kcal/kg. For 29 pounds or 13.2 kg, that would be 858 to 898 kcal. So you are right. The calculations are off. They are probably using RDA figures instead of 75% of RDA. If it should be 880, then they would instead calculate 1173 calories using RDA, which looks like what they did. You should have much better results with the lower calories. The other possibility is that they want her to gain weight; i.e. to get to the 50 percentile. At this weight, she may do better on the diet. Doing the calculations in reverse, that would mean that at 1188 kcal/day at 66.5 kcal/kg, they are using an ideal weight of 17.9 kg or 39.4 pounds. This would appear to be quite an increase. The example in Freeman's book on page 128 is nearly exactly like your daughter except the weight is slightly more at 33 pounds. They calculate 1020 calories per day. You should talk to the dietician as soon as possible. If that is not possible, I would cut down on all quantities by 25%. For example, if the recipe calls for 20 gm of butter, use 15 grams instead. You will need a calculator or a high school student to calculate all the numbers. It won't be exact, but it will be very close and better than keeping what you have. Otherwise your daughter will start vomiting or get reflux or refuse to do the diet which is a lot worse. Bill > Fritzenschaft wrote: > > Hello, > > I need help. We are just starting this keto diet. Did your doctor check your pH and did your Dr. look for yeast or for bacterial infections? If you are in that much discomfort, and this is all new to you, you might want to look at a second opinion. I had muscles spasms that were relived by internal vaginal massage. Maybe a physical therapist could address this? Also, on my webpage, health links, you will find the Menopaus list. There are a number of women there from Canada who might be able to direct you to a competent provider. I have so many questions. Have you had children? Are you wearing and IUD or what do you use for birth control. Give us as much information as you can about yourself and maybe one of us will know what direction to send you in. Guest guest
Hi again, Are you a physical therapist? If so, is there anything you can recommend to ease my suffering when I sit? What exactly is causing this pain? Is it nerves being pressed or muscle spasm? I teach small children and have to sit at my job most of the day, please, please help. Thank you in advance, Rose ---------- > > To: VulvarDisorders > Subject: Re: help > Date: Sunday, December 02, 2001 7:56 PM > > Hi Rose. > Do you have any back, hip, buttock or leg pain? Guest guest
Hi Rose, Yes I am a PT but I aman alternative or non-traditional one. I was asked to be apart of this list by one of my former patientswh who had intractable pain in the crotch ( medical terms) for 1 and a half years. She did so well that she urged me to add this new approach to the group for discussion and concideration. I will attatch my very first post to the group for you to review about the musculo skeletal asymmetries which can cause alot of havoc with your pelvis. I'de have to get my hads on you to see how much of your pain is coming from the pelvic floor muscle but in the meantime ..get on the phone and start calling PT departments.Ask to speek with the director and ask if they have anyone on staff who is expert in: MUSCLE ENERGY TECHNIQUE COUNTERSTRAIN PELVIC FLOOR DYSFUNCTION. If the answer is no , ask if he/she is aware of anyone who is. If the answer is no...keep dialing. Many of the women on this site have positive experience with PTs in their area so tell us where you live and you will get responses. As you will reed n my first post, there are some major problems that can occur when the pelvis is asymmetrical and the msucles put preasure on the peudendal nerve and blood vessels. Since the Pubic bone is one point of attatchment and the Sacrum is the other, dysfunction in the pelvis and sacrum can cause all sorts of problems. Don't expect the average OB or pain Doc to agree with this mechinism..it is not in their scope of study...Osteopaths on the other hand my have an inkling but may still not understand much moer than that. The butt pain with the crotch pain with the leg pain all point to a msuclulo skeletal problem as part of the problem..maybe the problem in total. Watch for the orriginal post...coming soon to a computer near you. TKOPT rose wrote: > Hi again, > Are you a physical therapist? Guest guest
Tom maybe you could help me: I have lordosis and scoliosis -I guess my pelvis is assimetrical because of this. I´ve had pain on contact on the vestibule, hymenal area and urethra for 12 years now. I always assumed it was due to some infection, alergy or irritation, because it seemed a problem of the mucous membrane, not a nerve or muscular pain. But recently there have been discussions suggesting that pelvis problems might result in the kind of pain I have. I live in Brazil. Are you aware of any practicioner here who might help me? thanks antonia > >Reply-To: VulvarDisorders >To: VulvarDisorders >Subject: Re: help >Date: Mon, 03 Dec 2001 21:57:58 -0500 > >Hi Rose, >Yes I am a PT but I aman alternative or non-traditional one. >I was asked to be apart of this list by one of my former patientswh who had >intractable pain in the crotch ( medical terms) for 1 and a half years. >She did so well that she urged me to add this new approach to the >group for discussion and concideration. Guest guest
Hola Antonia, It is more likely that the asymmetrical Pelvis caused the scoliosis / lordosis. When chronic msucle tighness clamps down on the normal fluid movement through the floor, it can set up an enviroment for irritation and secretion....this in turn can set up infection and more irritation, etc. This is just one of many etiology for problems in the area.
