clarification...(with response)

My 1st cut of seroquel brought me from 200 mg to 175 mg. My 2nd cut

brought me from 175 mg to 150 mg. The first cut was great. After 5

weeks, the headaches and nausea went away. I slept fine. The 2nd cut

was horrible. I still have headaches into my 8th week and the whole

time, I couldn't sleep well (I wasn't sleeping hardly at all

sometimes). My boyfriend noticed slight behavioral changes b/c I told

him to keep an eye on me in case anything goes wrong (I told him this,

so he and I can do something, rather than me going to the hospital

psych ward)...He says he notices slight behavioral changes that look

like I might be losing it (we call it decompensating). He wants me

back on the 175 mg. While I took 175 mg last night to help me sleep,

I feel indecisive about this. I went through 7 weeks (I'm in my 8th

week) of headaches, nausea and insomnia on my 2nd cut. Am I ever

going to get off of psychotropic drugs? Should I go back to 175 mg?

For how long should I be at 175 mg before I do another cut? >>

** Thank you. This clarification helps.

Seroquel (and other antipsychotics) have to be dealt with somewhat

differently than other types of drugs. 25 milligrams is too large of a

decrease. It's more than 10% as was your first decrease. You should not have

had headaches and nausea for 5 weeks. That is a sign that your decrease was too

large.

At times, even 10% will be too large. But, there will be no need to worry

about " losing it " if you follow the guidance we offer here. It is only by

choosing to do it your way -- too much at a time -- that will tip you over the

edge. It would do this to anybody.

You will find that you may need to stick closer to 5% decreases in order to

safely discontimue this drug.
