Don't forget that you can also change the depth of the prick by

adjusting the settings on your lance " pen " . Start off with the

smallest depth and work your way deeper if you don't get enough blood

for a reading. I'm lucky, I can get enough with my pen on the

shallowest depth. My first pen was a Fast Take and I did get bruises

and pain, but when I traded to an Accu-Chek Compact the pen was

different and I only need a very gentle poke to get a good amount of

blood. If I change meters again, I will be keeping this pen because

it is gentler on my fingers.

BTW, I am not selling them or anything, so I hope this is not in

violation of the " rules " , but I find the Accu-Chek monitor to be very

useful. Instead of having individual strips that you have to keep the

lid on so they don't go bad and you have to make sure that you don't

touch the test areas etc. this one has a " bullet pak " of 17 strips in

a little case (size and shape of a roll of camera film) and you put

the whole case in the monitor and then each time you turn it on, it

pushes one of the strips into place. You don't need to touch the

strip until you switch off and it " ejects " . Also, the price of the

strips is $75 CDN ($48 US) for 6 " bullet paks " or 102 strips.

It has made things easier for me. Promo over :)

For me I don't really have to wait at all. it's a 1/3 size drop of

blood. I still use my fingers though alot because my arm bruises

easily. Sometimes though the bleeding didn't want to stop. What I

have done though is just rub the area for a bit then prick to get the

sample.

Thanks Jayd, might just have to look into that, I like the one touch that I

have, but the strips are killing me on the price, even with insurance,
