Dana,

after my surgery to remove my ep and right tube I started what looked like

AF right away (which lasted for about a week), and then waited for another 6

wks before AF came back again, but I did not ovulate that cycle at all. It was

after AF (the second time) that my cycle appeared to go back to normal. But,

we are all different...I think it was who o'd relatively quickly after

her

treatment??? Don't hesitate to ask your doc...that's what he/she is there for.

Also, sex development of the fetus happens around wk 9 of development (I

think), so they may be able to tell. Chromosomally the sex was determined

when the egg met the sperm, so if there were chorionic villi, cytogenetic

studies could tell whether the baby was male or female. Hope this helps,

Elena

Dana,

I think that the gender of the baby was determined around wk 9...but I'm no

expert. Chromosomal studies can be done, but these have to be done right away,

hopefully your doc can help you, Elena.

Dana,

I just wanted to add to my earlier note, after having read Krista's reply, I

totally agree with her. This is such an emotional and difficult time, the

medical

terms are sometimes cold and very painful to deal with. I work in a regional

centre for cytogenetic studies and work with this 'material' (sorry) routinely,

but

I could not bear for my embryos and products of conception (I'm sorry, I don't

know any other words to use) from my ep to be studied there. Cytogenetics

are not routinely done on losses prior to 16 wks, and have to be requested

when that is the case, and done immediately...I thought of doing so in my

case, but couldn't bear the thought of what really happens in the lab.

Instead, I

chose to love the babies I know that I carried, and chose to believe they were

a boy and a girl. Thinking about you, Elena.
