The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in

collaboration with SHARE/MEDICITI's Public Health Management Institute

(PHMI) and the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS),

initiates a one-year 'hands-on' Public Health Field Leader Fellowship

(PHFLF). The program is open to applicants with commitment, aptitude,

and interest in being future leaders in public health and HIV/AIDS in

India.

Fellows will apply the gained skills concurrently to challenges in their daily

duties, benefiting both the employing agency and themselves.

Objectives

* Create leaders in the field of public health

* Develop a cadre of prevention experts in the context of the

Indian HIV epidemic

* Develop field management skills

* Encourage critical thinking (engagement of health systems)

* Achieve global standards in professionalism and learning

methodology

Main Areas of Learning

* Public Health (e.g. applied epidemiology & health systems

analysis)

* Selected Social Sciences (e.g. qualitative research

methodologies, health communications and behavior change)

* Management & Leadership (e.g. human resources, institutional

capacity development)

Duration

One-year programme starting November 12, 2007 includes:

* six, one-week long, contact courses in Hyderabad throughout over

one year

* Field exposure sessions

* Thesis project

* Take home assignments

* Field mentorship

Who should apply?

* Individuals aspiring to become public health leaders

* Professionals keen on strengthening expertise/skills in social

science and management

* Government officials who are committed to supporting systemic

changes in the development sector

* Individuals currently engaged in health and development who

desire to integrate HIV in their work (mainstreaming)
