I'm w/you I don't think I could wait until Thursday, if I've been having "symptoms" and actually thought there is a really good chance.

I can't wait to hear from you in the morning, lets see you are how many hours ahead of us? About 6-8 hours? What time do you go to work 8-9? That means I have to stay up until about 2:00 am at the latest, correct to be able to read you e-mail, I better take a nap today.

Well, here's some ++++++++ thoughts being sent to you!!! I'm praying for you & keeping you in my thoughts.

Hi everyone

anyone else from UK here?

Oh and yeah if your BG level is ok, so will your pee level. As sugar is

excreted via urine, excess sugar that is. Thirst is cos of dehydration.

I jus wanted to say how glad I am to have found this group. just nice to have

somewhere to chat about diabetes sensibly.

Well, it's late here, I need bed. I also wanted to ask if anyone else had a

good HbA1c, like my 7.2 % and still got ulcers? I was told it was the

neuropathy not the good control....you can never win....

Good night from England

Hi Ricky,

Welcome. This is a great group of people with lots of good

information on diabetes, ready to offer support and encouragement.

Ask any questions. Someone will have an answer, in most cases.

Hi Ricky,

Welcome to the group! You'll find lots of great information & ideas through the

fine people here. I'm 40 years old & was diagnosed with Type II in November

2001. I am also surrounded by diabetes & heart disease within my family. My

father died 10 years ago of a massive heart attack. He had been on dialysis for

four years & refused to have a kidney transplant. He was never diagnosed with

diabetes, but had all the conditions that go along with diabetes - high blood

pressure, neuropathy, high cholesterol, heart disease, kidney failure, etc.

However, many other family members have been diagnosed with diabetes. It was

just a matter of time for me, also. It was a wake up call, and I decided not to

be a statistic like the rest of my family. I immediately took control of this

beast, and I am the healthiest I've ever been in my life. I may have to thank

diabetes for prolonging my life.

Hi, and best wishes in your particular situation. I'm not diabetic <yet> but it

runs in my family - I do know what to do to have a huge effect on it, though.

If your diabetes is type two - you have two options. Lifestyle change,

weightloss and exercise - or medication and careful attention to whatever

dietary adjustments you can make to keep your blood sugars within or close to

the normal range. Both help and most people follow a partial program of each.

I personally prefer the lifestyle change and as long as I continue - little

chance of any complications and usually no medications.

Most I know prefer to eat smaller portions of the same foods and take some

medications - many absolutely hate exercise, and that may have contributed to

their conditions.

The first step in a lifestyle change is to lose weight - a fast way is boring

but what I do for high blood pressure and it works wonders for that too.

My wife and I go out once a week or so and eat whatever we want without

consideration for salt, sugar, fat, etc. - when we get home - we totally fast 1

or 2 days - <I drop 10 pounds the first day - heavier people might even drop

more> that drops the salt and excess bodily fluids down to normal or close to

normal. Then the rest of the week we eat potatoes and fresh frozen vegetables

and sometimes we substitute just plain white rice, or just oatmeal, skim milk

and a small amount of orange juice.

I've had people tell me they'd rather be DEAD than do that but my wife and

myself don't feel we're suffering or sacrificing at all. We live to eat when we

go out - the rest of the time, we eat to live. We don't use any margarine, oil

or salty spices and nothing other than what I mentioned above.

Some will say you have to go low carb to keep blood glucose down - others,

including the people at the long last RICE DIET program <duke university> say

the quick loss of weight on the rice and fruit diet does much more for diabetes

2 than eating low carb and staying heavier. Dr. Grim of

bloodpressureline is a hypertension research scientist at the

University of Wisconsin and has his own practices for hypertension too - he says

the rice diet was invented for type 2 diabetes and is great for lowering weight

and improving the condition - and worth ignoring the short term rise in blood

glucose. I believe that too.

Exercise is the next required thing in those that want to put the condition on

permanent control - walking for starters, jogging on a treadmill if possible

later and weight lifting. We both do, and we feel so good and never get sick.

All excercise and especially weight lifting burns up glucose stored in the

muscles and liver and lowers insulin resistance which is what keep blood glucose

levels high - It also rests the pancreas - as it doesn't have to produce as

much insulin when blood glucose is lower.

I plan to write an ebook on this later - let me know if have additional

questions.

Are you saying that it's more important in the long run to lose weight

than to lower blood glucose, and that's why you ignore glucose? Just a

newbie trying to understand.

Hi Steve,

We are also waiting to hear your " good " number. Needles don't bother me

anymore.

I go again in June for my A1c. My prayer is that it will be as good as it was

last June which was 5.9.

I've had people tell me they'd rather be DEAD <<

,

1st of all, you and your wife are, in my opinion, are doing the right thing.

A bit of preventive maintenance. Heck you may never see this ugly dragon in

you life time. I sure wish I had started a long time ago instead of having

that " above " saying. It's odd, when that statement does hit you in the

face, it takes on a whole new meaning.

I am unfortunately on meds and at the same time have done a major lifestyle

change. Which has been for the better. My goal, get off meds, but I also

know this means staying with the new lifestyle.

Oh yea, I get to go for my 3 month blood drawn since I was diagnosed. It

may sound weird, but I can't wait. I want to see, and also show off to the

doctor, my new numbers. I'm hoping they are real low. " I hate needles "

Because high fat diets are associated with heart problems, and diabetics are at

risk for heart problems, we are counselled to avoid fats. However, because

carbs spike the blood sugar, we are also counselled to avoid carbs. That leaves

protien as an energy source--and high protien is associated with kidney

problems, to which diabetics are also prone!

There are only three sources of energy for the body: carbohydrates, protiens,

and fats. Apparently all three are bad for us. I guess it's a matter of what

we want to 'get' us.

Re: hi all

Hi - When I was first diagnosed I was told to watch fat content of foods and

told nothing about carbs. At that time they thought it more important to lose

weight. Later, after losing about 100# they switched me to watching carbs.

Either that, or the medical people on a whole decided that carbs were more

important than fat. Even doctors go with fads! =)

Hi

Carbs, proteins and fats are bad for us only when we abuse them.

I think you've stumbled upon the Perfect Diabetic Diet: eat nothing. :/

There is this old story about a guy teaching his horse to go without food. He

cut the portions down everyday. He almost got it to where the horse could live

with eating nothing when the horse up and died for some reason.
