The figures do compel us to think that what is the hulla gulla all

about. If this is the magnitude of disease called AIDSin our country

than let us better change our priorities and spend energy and money

on more serious problems?

Other thing I feel is that we have a right of information then all

the querries raised by Joy Cyriac be answered and we need to chnage

our strategies in case we do not have correct answers to his querries.

Cd4 levels as a parameter has been changing over the years we all

know and also the definition of AIDS should be spellled in clear

terms. Without any bias to people manning ARV centers, I can bet, if we do a

survey of their understanding of definitions-the facts revealed will be

startling. (This does not imply that those outside have clear ideas).

Only yesterday an ex prof and head Orthpaedics, a leading clinician

of stature even in academic circles,an authority of his subject-

reffered this patient of caries spine for surgery (which he admitted

himself to do before--he knew the HIV status of the patient) to a

center 200 odd KMs from Amritsar on the plea that Amritsar(with two

Medical Colleges and one ARV center) does not have facility to

operate such cases.

I know I have gone out of context in response to above letter of Joyce. But

this is to highlight the level of ignorance at that high level-meaning thereby

that Joyce is right in doubting the credibility of above statement.
