Guest guest
Maggie, Klonopin is a seizure medication and is also used psychiatrically for anxiety. I have had "paroxysmal spasms", which are a type of seizure. I am fully conscious of what is going on around me, but can't respond. All my muscles try to act at the same time, causing a complete spasm of the body. I stop breathing and don't stop the spasm until the carbon dioxide builds up in my system. Then I come jerking out of it and start almost hyperventilating to get air. The Klonopin helps keep this under control. I also have an exaggerated startle reflex and its anti anxiety effect helps keep it under control. I have found that my therapeutic level is 7 mg/day: 1mg in am, 2mg at noon, 1mg at 6pm and 3mg at bedtime. It really works for me. I have just recently tried to wean myself off 1mg of the noon dose and began falling again after the 3rd day. My startle reflex kicked in and my legs would stiffen when I got startled, causing me to fall. I still have a couple of sore spots on my head. Hope I didn't go into too much detail. Guest guest
Mike, thank you for the explaination of klonopin and what it's for. I'm really sorry that you have to endure these awful seizures. I hope the klonopin continues to work........and " DON'T " cut back on the med anymore. <g> We don't want you to be hurt with falls.......we all tend to fall way too easily and you have the added problem of these seizures. take very gentle care of yourself. maggie .. Guest guest
Mike Gray, Forgive me for butting in but I have been taking Dilantin for all the reasons you listed in your e-mail. I have taking 100mg in the morning . When under extreme stress it doesn't always work. Is there a reason why Klonopin may be a better alternative. Also I would like to ask if I may e-mail you direct? Thank you, B. Oregon ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Guest guest
what i am afraid of is what will happen to me when the taper is over....and what i can do to make it not so terrible***Can you be more specific, what are you afraid of? What do you think will happen? You are tapering at 5% reductions? Are you afraid the panic attks may come back or are you afraid of withdrawal effects still lingering after you've tapered? What are the thoughts in your mind?I'm sure we can help put your mind at ease if you explain what you are worried of, and if we can't I bet we know what to suggest so that you can help yourself?Love
