Guest guest
APAC's online e-portal on HIV/AIDS As a pilot initiative, the AIDS Prevention and Control Project(APAC) will soon launch an online e-portal, 'Virtual Learning and Training Centre' (VLTC) on HIV/AIDS. VLTC targets medical doctos who would like to be trained on HIV/AIDS in the country. It would train the general medical practitioners and specialists comprehensively on HIV/AIDS in the Indian and Tamil Nadu context. To develop the table of contents and modules for VLTC, a two-day workshop was held inviting experts from across the country. A broad content for the programme was framed in the workshop. Dr. B. Chandra Mohan, Project Driector of APAC project, said that it was a pilot initiative in the country where web technology was used to deliver capacity building and training for doctors in the field of HIV/AIDS. " VLTC is going to be culturally and epidemiologically oriented and will be targeting doctors wanting to learn about primary care of HIV/AIDS at convenient timings through the Internet, " he said at a workshop here. They will also work toward catering to the welfare of people living with HIV/AIDS and reverse the epidemic. New initiatives are added on in Phase III and a framework was developed to give a good beginning to the e-learning component, he added. The project director said that VLTC offered two opportunities. Any person in practice and involved in the treatment of HIV/AIDS can clarify their doubts and get information from the VLTC. " Whereas the other thing is more structured and is for those who want to take up a course. This consists of ten modules. It can be taken up over a period of time at the convenience of the person, " he said. At the end of the course, there will be evaluation and certificates will be given. " This is more for general practitioners and those at the primary health care levels. Training on identification, treatment and management of HIV/AIDS patients will be given to them,' Dr. B. Chandra Mohan added. Dr. N.S. Murali, Secretary of Voluntary Health Services, and Dr.P. Krishnamurty, APAC-VHS, were present during the workshop.
