Guest guest
Hi, Ronnie, I passed your need to my daughter, a massage therapist at a resort spa in Blowing Rock, NC. She has reported that emotional responses during massage are not uncommon and pretty well-documented in textbooks and literature. However, intense pain after a massage is something to be concerned about, especially if it has not cleared up or lessened after 4 days. We are not aware of the type of massage that your friend had, how deep o vigorous. If it was a very deep massage that focussed a heavily in the general area of present pain, it might have caused soreness, but should not have caused severe pain. said that unless the massage therapist did work that was to vigorous, did stretches without warming the tissue and checking with the client on range of motion, or worked in an endangerment site (area that should not be massaged because of near-surface blood vessels or nerves) the massage should not have caused pain. So unless something like that happened during the massage and not mentioned in the email, it is not very likely that the massage was the cause of the pain, but more likely that the onset of the pain coincidentally happened after a massage. She said that more specific information would be needed before a possible explanation could be made. Regardless, she said that if your friend has been in severe pain for 4 days, she should see a physician. From experience with Bettie Jo, during a period of time when she was having physical therapy sessions, the did have pain in the hip area. This occurred when the therapist attempted to correct the pelvic tilt which had been developed during the long period of favoring her left leg. Over a long period, the pelvis tilted to one side, and the hips had become accustomed to the tilt. When the therapist developed exercises to correct that problem, it was indeed painful. Does that help? Don
