Guest guest
Hi Jewells: Since i have been were i think you are i know the fear it sets in motion when one does not know WHY a part of the body is hurting. Now,I don't know about lympnodes. What i HAVE experienced both following my RAI (177 mc) and technitum dose, for a parathyroid scan (20 mc) are very painful salvia glands (under the ear and down the jaw line)along with dry mouth, swollen tongue, sores in mouth and swollen gums - i have talked with all the Dr's involved in the Thyca care and my Dentist. Everything checks out OK so my medical community is saying they don't know what the cause is. Setting the cause aside, - What is recommended for relief of the pain and swelling (and whati do)is:suck on sour candies (thoughi am finding natural products ie grapefruit works better for me, a little of all that artifical flavoring goes a long way with me), use warm compresses, aspercreme can be helpful and firm but gentle massage of the areas brings some relief. Listed clearly on the printed sheet of possible side effects to the nuclear meds.is this salvia gland problem. Since, I have also experienced itchy and very dry eyes at the same time, it seems feasible to me that there is a connection. What i have also found is thatmercifully the paing does ebbsand flows. So there are times when it does not hurt. It also is taking a very long time to go away. So i am learning to enjoy my pain free days. I don't know if that helps. I can definately identify with your discomfort and pain and hope yours clears up soon. Sharon Papillary Cancer (lymp nodes involved) Stage 3 TT in June 2001 RAI in July (177 mc) Approaching my 1 year scan. > Hi everyone, > I wanted to know if anyone has experienced swollen lymph nodes by the > ears, and under the jaw line post RAI. Guest guest
After I-131 therapy in doses of 100-150 mCi about one third of patients will have swelling or tenderness of the salivary glands for a few days to a few weeks. The two main glands are the parotid glands, which are located at the angle of the jaw and extend to the ear, and the submandibular glands, which are under the jaw line near the angle of the jaw. When the salivary glands are swollen or tender after radioiodine, physicians unfamiliar with radioiodine therapy often misdiagnose them as swollen lymph nodes or strep throat. An exam by a physician familiar with the effects of radioiodine can set the record straight.
