Guest guest
Hi Tori, I think it's VERY common! Whether or not it is actually FROM or PART of EDS, I'm not sure-I don't think so, but very many do suffer from this, including me. It's one of my worst problems. Guest guest
Hi, I was just wondering how common irritable bowel syndrome is in people with HEDS. I have sometimes severe IBS (cramping, diarrhea and constipation) and I was just wondering if this could be part of the EDS. Thanks, Tori
Guest guest
HEDS and IBS Tori - I have IBS and have had it since my late teens. My daughter was diagnosed with it when she was 9 years old. A lot of EDSers have IBS. I take Paxil for depression but it also helps with the IBS problems. When I was first diagnosed with IBS - years before the EDS diagnosis, my MD at the time put me on amitryptiline. I gained 30 l;bs with it! I felt okay but after a a year I started having problems with the meds and didn't like all the weight. A GI MD put me on doxepin, another low dose antidepressant. With that med I gained over 80 lbs (after losing the 30 I had gained on the amitryptiline). I also have reactive hypoglycemia - when I eat carbs they go straight to fat instead of into energy. If you do end up taking an antidepressant, keep a very close watch on your weight. Don't end up like me! Bonnie Bonnie
Guest guest
My underweight daughter with severe cramping from eating was perscribed liquid zantec. She was dxed with a reverse motility, chronic gastritis and dumping into the intestines. the zantec seems to temporarily coat or numb the espohigus and gives her a window of time that she can eat during without experiencing this. liquid zantec is expensive ($245+) a month but is covered for her through an extension of service of Medicaid that covers expenses for children with chronic medical problems. aj > > Subject: Re: HEDS and IBS >... Guest guest
I think it MUST be myself, along with all 3 girls suffer from this and it is just horrible, esp for the 6 yera old... The Drs dont undersgand it and they just say give her mineral oil... etc and they have such suvere stomach cramps... The 12 year old hates to eat in fear of the stomach cramps she gets.. The dr is screaming at us because at 12 years old she is only 65 lbs.! This is a tough thing and we have not had a definate diagnosis cause I hate putting the kids through those nasty stomach/colon tests... but they live in pain 90 of the time with these symptoms. Guest guest
Hi Debby, I know there is something they can give for the cramping, I take anaspaz. Is it because of the girls' ages that they don't give them something? Love Lana
