Guest guest
AJ, Preparation H's main ingredients is shark liver oil. The oil helps shrink haemorrhoids, and other tissues. In Canada though, our formulation is different. The US FDA ordered that the product sold in the US be changed, and our formula contains an active yeast called Biodyne in addition to shark oil. The US formulation contains an astringent called phenylepherine instead of Biodyne, which is a potent vasoconstrictor. Some swear that Biodyne is a potent healing agent for burns, surgical scars and acne as well! I used a formulation of Retin-A in high school, called Stie-VAA (sp?) and my lord, I prayed daily for a quick death. The constant rash was too much to bear and I looked like the victim of a chemical peel gone crazy! I can't imagine the value of this in a haemorrhoid cream..... Jill Is there a reason why it works? I am using Retina A; but just read recently that it could cause a decrease in bone mass. is there Retina A in hemroide (sp!!) cream?

(Hoping no one in the US went out and bought some stuff with astringent in it ... that could hurt! Perhaps just buying sharks oil at a health food place would do it here in the US? I use Renova that my dermatologist tells me has retin-a in it. Renova works wonders I would hate to give it up. The dermatologist perscribed it for me because my face was 'addicted' to the steroid creams that doctors mistakenly perscribed for my Rosecea. The steroid worked to get rid of the Roseca but it took greater and greater amounts to work. When he took me off it my face went through an acute inflamation stage and it took almost a year for my face to withdraw from the effects of the steroids. Without the Renova one side of my face had skin similar to chicken skin - the dermatologist said this was a sign of EDS but I have not heard that before. aj
