I have ibs and i used to have constipation. what got me really better:

.. yoga and regular exercise -nothing to strong, but constant

regular eating times -especially in the morning.

always going to the bathroom on the same time -in my case, right after

breakfast. i changed the time i wake up just to have this time.

home made yogurt -delicious!

lots of water -one to three liters a day.

avoiding sugar and fried stuff

recently, i have been also taking turmeric. the effect is wonderful. i eat a

teaspoon in the morning and a teaspoon at night, mixed with olive oil. it's

a good antiinflammatory -if anyone is interested, i can send articles about

it

i still feel pain and irritation, but at least i " go " everyday, and my belly

is not as swollen anymore.

Jill, increasing magnesium intake helps constipation. That could be in the

form of Milk Of Magnesia (unflavoured is keto friendly) or a

calcium-magnesium preparation. Some people use a cal-mag-zinc supplement,

but I get a compounding pharmacy to prepare a cal-mag suspension for Hannah.

Recently I got them to add more magnesium because Hannah was still having

trouble using her bowels, and MOM seemed to make her too explosive. I give

the suspension with each meal and spreading it out acrosss the day seems

better than giving a single daily dose. Of course, always push fluids when

using products that promote bowel action.

Hope this helps

Milk of Magnesia (Original flavour; sugar free). I use 2 - 3 teaspoons

per day. You will have to experiment. It is also beneficial for reflux

which you also might experience, especially at night.

Extra water is also good.

Hi Jill - My daughter uses Milk of Magnesia, Sugar Free, Mint flavor. This

works well for her and our Keto team says it is OK to use whenever we want -

the Magnesium even helps to absorb calcium. She has only been on the diet

for 2 months, so the Proboitics listed below may be better but I don't know

what it is. Good Luck to you.

Personally I've had constipation problems for a lonf time aven before tthe

VV. I would recommend a batural laxitive over a manufactured one. My

friend reommended meagnesium to me. You can get a big bottle at K-Mart. I

take 3 in the morning but you can take up to 9. I tried the Pysillium too,

not only was it nasty tasting I got a lot of gas too. Ox-obsorb also works

well for constipation. Sue

HI, where can I find the Prima Psyllum Husk Powder? how often do u give it to ur kid? My daughter Olevia tends to have BM 1-2 times a week, her stools are hard! Our dietian told us that she shld have BM 3-5 times a week.. We used to give her Aloe Vera Juice but it seems dont help her--seems like her system is getting used to it... U can also try add lettuce in every meal, it might help some? Thanks, K.--

Does this powder have to be calculated into the diet? I have Mike on colace right now and it seems to be working well but I dont want to keep using it indefinitely. We also use suppositories but I dont want to use them long term either. Glad to help. This list is just awesome! Where else can you find a whole bunch of keto experts in one place? We get our Psyllium husks at the health food store. I give them at breakfast

mixed in his fruit or cottage cheese. read the label of the kind you buy cuz

most you wont have to calculate in.

my want to try correcting any problems in the digestive. I would try adding

acidophilis. Digestive enzymes help too. in reading my prescription for

I have read that a BM every 2 or 3 days is okay on the diet. Much depends on

the calorie level and activity of the child.

Try fasting yourself for a day or 2 and see if there are any effects!

As I read this I recalled my SIL, an aged care nurse at the time, telling me that they give warm orange juice to the elderly patients to help them use their bowels. Her comment came as a warning to me as I was using slightly warmed juice for my toddler because she didnt like it cold.

Rebekah has been on the diet since July, 2001, going into our seventh month.

She is doing really good with meds dropped to half of what they were.

However, she is still not having any BM's on her own. I am worried that

this will cause a permanent lazy bowel. I have tried most everything and am

at a loss. It would be so sad to have to go off of the diet because of this!

If anyone has had any experience with this please help me out. My worry is

that she will go off the diet and she won't be able to resume bowel

movements normally. Do we continue the diet or not? We have been giving her

an enema weekly to clean her out for fear of having a blockage. Last week

her stool was soft and no reason why she couldn't have gotten rid of it

herself. I am presently giving her 1:1 Cal/Mag. and still no results on her

own.

You say 1:1 calcium to magnesium ratio. But how much is she getting?

The 1:1 Cal/Mag didn't make any difference for lin either. What helped

was the psyllium husks which we purchased at local health food store. Just

make sure you get the kind with no added fillers. We give him 1/4 tsp twice

a day mixed into his keto-cooler. THey have no taste at all, just a bit of

texture. He doesn't notice that its there. Its helped him go every 2nd or

3rd day. Before that, we were having to use MOM.

Laverna,

We have been having this same battle for the last few months too. I found a

I am having the same problems with my son right now - he started the

diet on June 14/01. He is on 1:1 cal:mag ratio as well without effect

and when I raise the mag he complains of tummy aches. I talked to the

doc and got him put on colace and that has done the trick. Mike is also

having trouble peeing but we started the colace yesterday and that is

slowing taking care of the peeing problem as well for him. YAY! There

are many things to try for constipation before going off the diet. This

group has given me many good ideas. We are not planning to keep him on

the colace for long - just until we can get the psyllium husks for him.

Hopefully those will work and that will be the end of our problems with

constipation. I have been told that some children do not need to have a

BM every day but am not quite sure how many days they can safely go.

Mike is also doing much better now that we are reducing the meds.
