Hi, My name is Sandy. I am mom to 5 kids, 3 grown and 2 school aged,

boy-7 and girl-8. Our oldest also lives with us as he is in a wheel

chair and living alone would be very difficult.

I home school our youngest 2. They are adopted and we have had some

real struggles with the youngest.

We have done many things to intervene in order to keep him off

medications. They have all help in one way or other but I am still

searching and learning. We have been following the Spec. Carb Diet

for almost 2 1/2 yrs going as organic as possible. We were told that

he may have leaky gut. We found the diet very helpful but not

totally. I have wondered many times if it wasn't the chemicals in the

foods that were automatically taken out of our diet that helped more

than the diet itself.

We are also in the midst of doing NAET with our whole family. We know

that our son is VERY sensitive to chemicals and have cleaned our home

up from any chemicals more than we have ever been and try to restrict

the amount of exposure he gets outside of our home.

Both kids will clean grains with our NAET treatments this next week

and we are wanting to go more to the Nourishing Traditions way of

eating. Before we started the Spec. Carb Diet I was soaking our

oatmeal overnight with yogurt or whey before we used it but that is

about as far as I got. We sort of jumped into the SCdiet with both

feet and didn't look back.

I would like to hear from anyone that may have followed the SCD and

has converted over to NT or if you know of anyone that has.

Well, I guess that is all for now. I have been reading some of the

past posts and enjoying.

Be blessed

Sandy

Sandy,

There are quite a few mamas in the same boat you are in on my forum. It's

at www.TFrecipes.com/forum/. You might get some good responses if you join

on the board and post. We've got women on there who are at all stages of

healing and dealing with their and their kid's food issues.

Hi, Sandy,

There is a Group called Healing Leaky Gut. We are all following

either the SCD or GAPS diet. It is from the book Gut and Psychology

Syndrome (GAPS) by Dr. Natasha McBride.

GAPS is very similar to SCD -- but it is more NT-ish (cod liver oil,

bone broths, beet kvass, liver, fermented foods, kefir, etc.). Also I

think the kinds of dairy that are allowed are different. No dairy on

GAPS -- then slowly and one-at-a-time start introducing ghee

(clarified butter), kefir, butter, homemade yogurt, cheese, sour cream/

creme fraiche, and then finally milk and cream.

We are the opposite -- we started on NT and are now doing GAPS/SCD. My

husband and I have been eating NT for 7 months now. We started on the

GAPS diet 2 weeks ago. He had chronic intestinal pain and alternating

diarrhea/constipation -- for as long as he could remember (even as a

child). Those symptoms have disappeared. He is also experiencing

elevated moods and a reduction in depression and anxiety.

Hope to see you on the Healing Leaky Gut list!
