Abbott Global Day of Action - 26th April 2007

Dear Friends

As you may be aware a Global Protest against Abbott Laboratories is happening on

the 26th of April 2007, This is against Abbott's decision to withdraw the

registration of 7 drugs in Thailand, this decision by Abbott is in retaliation

of the Thai Govt.s decision to bring into effect compulsory licensing of three

essential drugs namely Kaletra, Efavirenz & Flavex in keeping with its promise

to access to treatment to all.

Abbott has a patent for the drug Kaletra, This decision of Abbott to withdraw

the registration of 7 drugs in Thailand would mean that people will not be able

to access medicines at a low price and would also indirectly effect the economy

of Thailand.We need to support and appreciate the Thai Govt. decision to stand

up to the health rights of people of Thailand and bring in compulsory licensing

of these life saving drugs.

We also need to protest against abbotts decision to withdraw the registrations

of essential drugs from Thailand, and the pressure they are putting on the govt.

to withdraw the compulsory licencing.

We would request your active participation in this protest and would also

request you to mobilize more people to participate in the protest.

A silent protest on the 26th of April 2007 will be organized outside the

corporate office of Abbott India Limited at 3-4 Corporate Park, Sion-Trombay

Road, Chembur.

The theme of the protest will be black – Pleople should be wearing black clothes

or something black as and indication of protest.

A street play may be performed to make people aware of the issue.

The timing for the protest will be form 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

A Press briefing will be held on the 25th at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm., at the

Lawyers Collective office. The following people will brief the press
