, there is a loophole in the law allowing raw almonds to be sold if

they are sold directly to the consumer from the grove with no

middleman. One place I'm confident of selling raw almonds is

http://www.almonds-from-california.com/, (I buy from them). Another

site that a friend uses is www.trulyraw.com. If they say they will

sprout, I'm thinking they aren't pasteurized. Does their info say NOT

PASTEURIZED or does it just say raw, because legally the FDA allows

them to call pasteurized almonds raw. If you can't find the words not

pasteurized, I would advise looking elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Well I did some calling around and these almonds are steam treated to

kill bacteria on the surface but are still indeed sproutable. So

there may be a loss of a very small amount of nutrients on the surface

but it appears that the almonds themselves weren't actually 'killed'

in the process. Still not sure if I want to buy they or not...
