Guest guest
Last year before we moved 5 hours away from nada, we lived just 3 hours away which was not a problem for her at all to just pop in. We also had a source for naturally raised meat which was about 30 minutes from our house. It was a little family operation and they decided to sell turkeys for Thanksgiving. I was still in constant contact with nada at this point last year, but had decided that she should only be in my house when accompanied by my father. She was just so much nicer if others were around. Nada decides to purchase her turkey from this family farm. I freaked out because I assumed that she was only doing it to break down my boundary and come to my house when husband was at work. I ended up driving to meet her at the farm which was a big deal at the time because I have debilitating monthly migraines, but I drove anyway to keep her out of my house. Fast forward to this year. We've been NC since the end of August. I hear from my brother that she is making a 6-7 hour round trip to purchase a turkey again this year (we've since moved to another state). So either I was wrong about her intentions last year or she is driving for the turkey this year to prove that she was sane last year and it had nothing to do with me, the evil one. Either way sane people don't drive over 6 hours to purchase a turkey!! Please know I'm not freaked out about this. I just needed to post and am trying to deal with her antics with humor when possible. Just about the time I have her " game " figured out, she does something even more creative. le

Guest guest
I remember when you were going through all of that last year. How does it feel being a year removed? All I can say is try not to read into her motives too much. She can drive for a year to get a turkey if she wants to. For some people that's easier than actually trying to find a good farmer in their own town. Plus, she'll be able to get lots of attention when she tells everyone how much trouble she went through to get it ;-) My mom does something similar with this restaurant that's in the town where I went to college. My husband and I ended up living about 2 hours north of there for a few years, and every time my parents made the 10+ hour trek south to visit us, she'd insist they tack the extra 2 hours on just to go to this restaurant. It is kind of a cool place- -all organic, southern home-cookin'--but still, she seemed really confused that we never wanted to go with her. kt > > Last year before we moved 5 hours away from nada, we lived just 3 > hours away which was not a problem for her at all to just pop in. Guest guest
kt, Yes, a year removed. I wish I felt peaceful, but I haven't reached that point yet. It is so hard for me to be NC, yet I know that's what I have to do. I think since I am pregnant I am dealing with a new type of anger. We are also NC with MIL and have been since May 2007. My husband is an only child and it's just unbelievable how his mom acted. The more I study personality disorders, the more I am convinced that we both have crazy mothers. Being pregnant, yet sharing this with neither of the grandmothers is just so frustrating some days. Not to mention, neither of these women are having a relationship with their grandchildren. Someday maybe it won't bother me. For now, I'm trying to find some humor in it so my weepy hormones don't take over. Oh and my brother said the reason for her turkey trip is because she's developed a habit of telling you the retail price of every bite you put in your mouth. Thanksgiving cooked by a BP martyr. No thanks!! le > > > > Last year before we moved 5 hours away from nada, we lived just 3 > > hours away which was not a problem for her at all to just pop in. > We > > also had a source for naturally raised meat which was about 30 > minutes > > from our house.
