>Hi Elaine

we received our organic mattress for Sam last week and bed frame as it

is 3ft 6 so bigger than the average single bed. We got it from a

welsh company called ABACA Ltd email: info@... phone

number 01269 598491. It is a very nice bed, smells like a sheep for a

couple of days! Sam seems very pleased. Cost is breathtaking for

both £787!!! Arrgh. Hope it lasts him a good ten years, no springs

though so jumping on bed should be better, they assured me it was

pretty bomb proof! HTH Di x

I am saving for a totally wool mattress from

Shepherds Dream. I already got one for the

crib. The layers are thin so you can take

them out and air them in the sun. I can't

until I can afford mine !

Shepherds Dream makes very nice mattresses, but if you

would like a well made alternative at 1/3 the price, check out

www.natureswool.com.

We've had ours for about 5 yrs. Still good as new.

,

Don't know about getting one on the cheap side (you get what you pay

for and all). We bought ours from Lifekind and they are the

absolutely most comfortable, most wonderful beds we have ever slept

on. They were pricey, but when I wake up in the morning FULL of

energy and feeling like I have truly rested life is GOOD. I highly

recommend them (I believe broken down over the life of the mattress-

25-30 years- the price is teeny tiny). It's just the initial outlay

that's hard....

HTH,

Sal

Can anyone here recommend a place where you can get

organic mattresses/bedding that don't cost an arm and

a leg?

Don't even suggest a hay bail, because I am already

thinking of going that route ;)

Thanks,

Just checked that site out. Now these are the kinds

of prices I was looking for! And the shipping is

reasonable, too. Thanks Greg!

I really like the looks of this. Do you place this directly on top of a box

spring, or on top of another mattress?

Ours sits on a futon bed frame (sometimes called a platform bed), just a

simple wood frame with cross slats to allow air circulation. This link has a

picture of a similar frame:

I think it does, but your mileage may vary.

To me, sleeping on a wool mattress is more like sleeping on a futon

than sleeping on a regular bed. If a futon has enough back support, I

would expect a wool mattress to have enough as well.

Does anyone know if the wool is treated, or if any parts of the bed are? I'm

guessing the cotton cover isn't organic?

I think if you already had a bed which had adequate back support, it

would be best just to get a mattress topping, rather than buy a entire

new mattress and find out it is not supportive enough.

It is also unclear to me whether the cheaper version is organic.

Thanks for the heads up Greg...

The only thing is that they

cover the matress in cotton ticking.

I want mine covered in a wool blanket

sort of material. I am covering my

awful conventional matress with a wool

blanket right now. You would think it

would be hot but it is not. Wool is more

breathable than cotton. I always wondered

why you see Nomads in the hot sun wearing

wool. Psychologically I am not ready to

wear wool clothing in summer ... but...

hmmm... men wear summer weight wool suits...

Also, I am glad to hear after 5 years it

is still good as new. What do you put

your mattress on ? I am thinking a slat

foundation... but am dreaming of owning a

hammock bed. www.floatingbed.com !!! *SIGH*
