Guest guest
Well Harry, Dispatcher type tests, like the Perfex are designed to see how a person reacts 1)under pressure, 2) listens and follows directions and 3) multi-tasks. but it still doesn't mean a person who passes the Perfex will make a " good " dispatcher. I've never had a written test, other then the MMPI or what ever they call it so I don't know what judge they are other then it shows a person can read and write and follow instructions (do I see a thread here -- follow instructions?) I agree with you about the education level. Just because a person has gone to college doesn't make them a better candidate for dispatching then the person on the street. I hate how we now require our police officers to have 2 years of college.. it doesn't matter in what area, just so you've spent the money and time in college!! so far it's not mandatory for dispatch candidates but it's highly suggested. Hiring is such a hit and miss situation. And a big part of being a supervisor that I don't miss at all!! kathy
Guest guest
> Hiring is such a hit and miss situation. > Isn't that the truth!!!! We use a 280 question written test, (basic knowledge), the Perfex, a Peer Review (dispatchers (no superivsiors) interviewing w/basic questions) and an Oral Board. We have been short-staffed since last Feb (I know, who hasn't??) and have hired 6 to 8 people in that time and only 2 are still there. Wouldn't it be nice if people had ingredient lists (like food) that show: handles stress, can work long hours, or cries when yelled at. Sure would make our lives easier. . .
