Guest guest
Our cotton futon has sunk in the middle where we sleep and the corners are sticking up (where we don't sleep) despite obsessively flipping it when we first purchased it - it's so incredibly uncomfortable. I want to make sure that a wool mattress won't do this - any comments? The website states that wool springs back to retain its shape - but the seller of my futon said that the cotton would only compress slightly. I'd love to hear from someone who's not trying to sell one Carolee
Guest guest
I had a wool pillow once and it compressed in a couple of years. I'd assume that a mattress would do the same thing. I'm expecting many more years of trouble-free sleeping. My experience with cotton futons is similar to yours; after a year or so they start to be uncomfortable. The switch to wool has been delightful. ~Greg
Guest guest
We had an organic cotton pad for our Duxiana bed, and it requires daily fluffing and shaking in order to maintain loft. Still, after 6 years of shaking and fluffing, it compacted. They reach a point of no return, but I figure, by that time, there are probably already 5-6 lbs of dust mites so it's time for a new one anyway. *weak grin* Sharon On Sun, Apr 27, 2008 at 11:10 PM, ccbmamma <caroleebol@...> wrote: > Our cotton futon has sunk in the middle where we sleep and the corners > are sticking up (where we don't sleep) despite obsessively flipping it > when we first purchased it - it's so incredibly uncomfortable. Guest guest
Hi Greg and everyone who responded, I just went ahead and ordered a wool twin from Nature's Wool - only $350 including shipping. Shepherd's Wool was quite a bit more - probably a better mattress - but I just can't afford the price tag right now. It's for our toddler so hopefully he'll recover from the fact that he can no longer bounce on it and will eventually get used to it. One thing that they said, though, for whoever is considering this option, is that it's pretty hard on a platform or any surface which isn't soft (e.g. better on a box spring or another mattress underneath, which totally defeats the purpose of a healthier option in my mind - I may just fold some blankets or an old comforter underneath). Shepherd's Wool sells foam strips to go over each slat, so I may end up having to get that as well. I'll write back and let everyone know how it's working out. thanks again! Guest guest
Yes, Please don't forget to let us know how it's working out and what accomodations you use to make it work at peak performance ! Did they say anything about a euro slat foundation ? That would solve the air circulation problem but we want to know about the comfort factor. Is there anyone out there that is using a euro slat foundation ? Is there anyone out there that owns the floating round hammock bed ? www.floatingbed.com --- In , " ccbmamma " <caroleebol@...> wrote: > > Hi Greg and everyone who responded, > > I just went ahead and ordered a wool twin from Nature's Wool - only > $350 including shipping.
