Guest guest
Hello. I can't recall seeing many answers to your post, so thought I'd add a few cents. . . from my perspective, there are a few negatives: 1) acidosis -- my daughter got very upset and edgy. She's quite acidic by nature and the diet makes her more acidic. That creates a balancing act -- seizure control and general ability to cope with life! She would just get very huffy and puffy, panicky and unconsolable. A short term solution was club soda -- she'd calm down within 5 minutes. Long term was a slightly lower ratio. 2) lethargy -- doesn't have quite the energy, but then the meds really zapped her, too. She can make it through a school day and after-school therapies, etc., but by 7:30 to 8 p.m., she's pretty zonked. 3) " being normal " -- it's hard for a kid to eat different foods and to not be able to eat normal " kid " food. The Moms/Dads here can share some great ideas. 4) risk for osteoporosis -- it's critical to supplement with calcium/magnesium/zinc/vitamin D as well as to use good quality vitamins (better than the Bugs Bunny the docs usually prescribe). 5) too many chemicals -- lots of people think that you have to use Nutra Sweet, highly processed meats, etc. You can do this diet without them! Well, it's late and that's all my tired brain can come up with for now. Best of luck with your decision.-D --- The Hoffmans wrote: > Hi! Guest guest
De... Great list! Thought I'd add slight increase in risk for kidney stones. Oh... and some kid's cholestrol gets elevated, but they've never shown any long term effects from this. Most people can lower the high levels by monitoring the types of fats they use...staying away from sat. fats and processed meats. Can anyone think of any other possible concerns for the diet???
