Good Morning!

Four years ago, I had candida so badly, that my medical doctor mis-diagnosed me

as having MS! Convinced that I did not have MS, my mom and I set out on a quest

to find out why I was so sick.

We stumbled upon a healer who looked at me for just minutes and said, " I know

exactly what is wrong with you! " When we did a blood test with a Naturopath a

few weeks later...we agreed with her!

Well, four years later...I saw the healer back in October, and she didn't say a

word about Candida. Just about more emotional issues (Anxiety, Being hyper).

Tuesday, when I went to stock up on supplies and for a rescreen, I figured I

know what she would say. Boy was I WRONG!

Now, I am once again battling Candida. Sat-Monday, I plan on doing the Milk Cure

(drinking a gallon of raw milk each day)...but after that, I know that I need to

knock out soooo much!

Any ideas on sugar-free and wheat-free snacks and meal ideas?

Thanks!

Mrs Bernstien (Avery)

I live on chicken breasts and broccoli, also sauerkraut to add the probiotics to

get rid of the candidiasis.

A nutritionist I know swears by cream of tartar for candida. I think

you start with 1/4 tsp in a glass of water, supposedly it doesn't

taste all that bad.

Another one I've heard is sodium lactate, which is made from salty

lactofermented foods, and is even present when they are cooked. I

knew an Amish fellow who would make mashed potatoes (are they

allowed?) with sauteed vegetables as a topping. Just when he was

finished cooking the veggies - onions, carrots, cabbage, peppers,

eggplant, etc. - he'd put in some sauerkraut so it just got warmed

and then put that right on top of each plate of mashed potatoes. It

was really delicious.

Last one - which would also be in good sauerkraut is s. boulardii

yeast. It is supposed to be pretty powerful in rebalancing the

bacteria/yeasts in the gut. A tip I got is that you can multiply it

if you buy it, just add it to flour and water like you would regular

yeast. It acts a lot like bread yeast, but is supposed to be non-

colonizing.

Hi Avery,

I too had systemic candidiasis really bad. I've been on a completey

sugar free/grain free diet since the end of last May. I also added

milk kefir, water kefir, Kombucha Tea, and lots of cultured

vegetables. I'm really trying to stick to 50% raw. With all these

lactofermented foods you don't need to buy probiotics and I think

I've tamed it.

As far as recipes, try this site for people with various bowel

problems. Every recipe is gluten free and mostly sugar free.

http://www.scdrecipe.com/

Almond flour and bean flours don't really contribute to candida in

small amounts so you can use that in these recipes. Most of them

call for almond flour, but I use 1/2 almond and 1/2 bean flour in

most of them, sometimes I even substitute with 1/2 flax meal. A lot

of them call for honey, I substitute with Stevia and what I've tried

works well. I stick to raw cultured veggies, lightly steamed

brocolli, cauliflower or green beans, baked meats. Avoid most fruit

for now except small amounts of berries, granny smith apples and

yellow grapefruit. Hope this helps. On my fermented beverages, I

ferment extra long to make sure the sugar is gone, then resweeten

with stevia if necessary. http://www.scdrecipe.com/

Avery, have you seen the Body Ecology Diet? The web site has yummy

recipe for fermented vegs.

Large number of mostly Paleo-style recipes at the Performance Menu.

(sugar free, grain free, don't know about dairy)

snacks: mini pumpkin pies made with cream-cheese nut crust. Little

yummy bites of energy.

And, if I may ask, why do you think it flared up again?

Here, Avery,

This is the site of my nutritional therapist friend's doctor friend.

If you scroll way down to near the bottom there's an article called

healing Candida Naturally or something like that. He gives

directions to cure candida without any hard to follow diets. I'd

substitute the sauerkraut for the probiotics, tho.

I battle candida myself. Can you tell us what you have tried, so that I

can tell you of other things that I have read or tried myself. Mine is

under control, but not eradicated completely. I need to treat my

husband's candida to eradicate it completely, and that will be a pita.

I have been working with this diet for the last few months:

It is still too early to tell but it seems to be helping.

I personally believe Candidiasis is over-diagnosed. The laundry list

of symptoms is so long that just about anyone would qualify. Even

blood tests are unreliable, since we all have Candida in our digestive

tract.

If there is a candida overgrowth, there is very likely an overgrowth

of other pathogenic bacteria in the gut. Best, IMO, to consider it an

imbalance of flora and not take on the idea that you have candida.

This can lead to an overly restrictive diet that is stressful and,

ironically, can exacerbate the condition.

That said, obviously certain dietary interventions can help. Some

like the GAPS diet (although I believe it's too restrictive for most

people), others like the Body Ecology Diet, and of course many here

recommend the WAPF/NT diet. I personally think the WAPF diet is more

than sufficient if it is followed carefully.

I mean no harm in saying this, but eating chicken breasts (especially

without skin and fat) and broccoli only for an extended period will

harm your body and deprive you of many nutrients. A balanced, WAPF

diet emphasizing fermented foods, soaked grains, free range meat &

fish, vegetables and raw dairy should do the trick.
