There's lots of interest these days in DIY laundry soaps. This recipe

is an example of such:

Hi, this is my first post. Just wanted to mention that I just found soap

nuts. I recently ordered them and so far I love them. Haven't tried whites

yet, but other loads have come out great! Here's the link.

Or, you could go ahead and figure out how to make real soap (lard soap

works *very* well and is really cheap). I dilute it a lot, add borax,

put vinegar in the rinse, and my laundry is great, and my son has no

more rashes from synthetic detergents. Works great even in this hard

water, with the borax added.

Joy,

How does that soap do on colored fabrics? My pet peeve with natural detergents

is that my clothes lose so much of their color from the very first wash. As

folks who like to keep their clothes for as long as possible (I'm sure years out

of style, but oh well!), this doesn't work for us.

, we use Seventh Generation free and clear laundry detergent and

dish soap and have been pleased so far. I just hope they don't sell

out to some big corporation that will ruin their products.

Here's what they say about their company:

Hi

I use Seventh Generation too, for a lot of things. I think that we're

pretty safe that they won't sell out (for now, anyway). My friend

works their offices in Vermont, and it's a great company, very

independent.

Here's hoping they stay that way!

I haven't noticed any color loss at all. Now, hanging them out on the

line and leaving them there too long, that's a different matter ... ;+)

Maybe your water has too much chlorine in it? Or is it all the same

brand of clothes that lose the color?
