Just wanted to mention that I just found soap nuts. I recently ordered them and so far I love them. Haven't tried whites yet, but other loads have come out great! Here's the link. http://www.maggiespureland.com/ Cori

Guest guest
Or, you could go ahead and figure out how to make real soap (lard soap works *very* well and is really cheap). I dilute it a lot, add borax, put vinegar in the rinse, and my laundry is great, and my son has no more rashes from synthetic detergents. Works great even in this hard water, with the borax added. Guest guest
Joy, How does that soap do on colored fabrics? My pet peeve with natural detergents is that my clothes lose so much of their color from the very first wash. As folks who like to keep their clothes for as long as possible (I'm sure years out of style, but oh well!), this doesn't work for us. Danae Re: Laundry detergent, best/safe choices? I just hope they don't sell out to some big corporation that will ruin their products. Guest guest
Hi I use Seventh Generation too, for a lot of things. I think that we're pretty safe that they won't sell out (for now, anyway). My friend works their offices in Vermont, and it's a great company, very independent. Here's hoping they stay that way! > > I have been looking into Laundry detergents and wondering if you all > > had a recommended brand or way to make your own. Guest guest
I have had been happy with Maggie's soap nuts. I just recently ordered them and I like that I don't have to add anything else to the wash. It smells clean and how much more natural can you get than berries from a tree? Guest guest
I haven't noticed any color loss at all. Now, hanging them out on the line and leaving them there too long, that's a different matter ... ;+) Maybe your water has too much chlorine in it? Or is it all the same brand of clothes that lose the color?
