Guest guest
Just now learning about Weston Price diet, etc... Can anyone tell me where (and brand) I can find a healthy lard? I looked at my local health food store but didn't see any. The lard I find at Wally World says..... lard and HYDROGENATED lard on the label....that doesn't sound healthy to me. I've use EVOO for long time...recently threw out the canola which I always thought was good (got rid of the margarine and shortening quite a while ago)...added coconut oil, palm oil (which I haven't used yet), macadaemia oil and some cold pressed safflower. Am I on the right track here?? Thanks to those who responded (privately and on the group) to my question regarding information on floride usage. I have forwarded the information on to my daughter. Kay, as implied, you might want to look to farmers markets for good quality lard from pastured pigs that are not heavily grain and soy fed. Conventional lard has a fair amount of polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) and is often hydrogenated (trans-fats). > I've use EVOO for long time...recently threw out the > canola which I always thought was good (got rid of the margarine > and shortening quite a while ago)...added coconut oil, palm oil > (which I haven't used yet), macadaemia oil and some cold pressed > safflower. Am I on the right track here?? I'd toss the safflower oil too. Unless you got the high oleic kind, it's likely *very* high in PUFA. And even the high oleic kind has more PUFA than lard. I put together a table of the constituents of various fats and oil here: http://stay-healthy-enjoy-life.blogspot.com/2007/10/selecting-fats-and-oils-for-\ health.html I use mostly butter and coconut oil.
