Re: Shortage of ARV and essential drugs in Manipur--reply thereof

Dear All

This is to inform you all about availablility of ARV drugs at ART centres in

Manipur. All ARV drugs are available at ART centres in Manipur and the fresh

supplies for 2007 -08 were dispatched in July itself.

There was a transient shortage of Efavranz as the usage if EFV in Manipur was

very high (35% compared to 20% recommedned by experts and usage at other

centres). The reasons for the same were sought and ART centre at RIMS explained

this to factors like high side effects to NVP and more patients with deranged

liver functions, hence needing EFV.

The immediate need was met by transfering EFV from other centres. NACO has one

Regional Coordinator Dr Apabi especially to take care of all NE states and he

has worked at Imphal for more than a year. Presently also he visits Mnaipur for

7-10 days a month depanding on the need.
