Guest guest
I have a huge box of cloth diapers and accompanying wraps-size small and large, unbleached tri-fold diapers-about 3 dozen of each. I would love to sell them (cheap) to someone who could use them --- Will Winter <holistic@...> wrote: > Oh, brother, this is going to make you mad! Definitely go for the snapped. If you can get Mother-ease covers, then they're worth just about anything that they're charging for them these days. Last night when I was diapering up my 4 yo who is still in nighttime diapers, I looked down at the covers and realized that they've been in action, non-stop, for over ten years. You just can't beat an investment like that. FWIW, I use Imse Vimse's under the Mother-ease so that I don't have to pin the diapers. Vimse's aren't leak proof, which is why I don't like them as an external cover, but they're great for an underneath cover. Gotta scrape out the velcro from time to time, though, because they get clogged with lint. Mother-ease rocks. Guest guest
I switched to cloth when my baby was about 6 months old and I absolutely love them. I would never go back to disposables! I bought the pre-folds and covers as well. I bought 2 packs of pre-folds and 8 covers. I went with Thirsties and I've been very happy with them. Eight covers have been more than enough. You could easily do with less -- say 4 or 6. I like having 8, since I usually have some dirty ones and some hanging to dry in the laundry room. I only wash my diapers every other day. These are the ones I bought: http://www.babycottonbottoms.com/thirstiesdiapercover.htm I also bought about 5 Snappies -- which work great. And about 8 or 10 microfiber inserts -- since my baby has a tendency to soak through her diapers at night (she even does it with disposables). That's the store I bought them from, too. Excellent customer service. I got my diapers very fast! The prefolds and covers option is very economical (compared to the pocket and all-in-one styles). I figured I am saving over $1500 on diapers -- and that's with only one baby who didn't get started until 6 months. If I use them on the next baby (which I will) the savings will be even greater. Guest guest
I use velcro proraps, because they were the cheapest. They have lasted a long time (2 kids), but after a certain age the babe can undo the velcro. Ditto for the snappi- really, you want them to be able to walk around without a cover at home for breathability, and while I enjoyed the snappis and prefolds they weren't practical for this function as the baby gets older, so I used pins sometimes. I do think that the mother-ease diaper is the best, and holds up very well. It makes sense that their cover works well too! If I have a 3rd we will definitely buy the motherease covers and more snap diapers. You might consider looking into wool covers, if your husband won't shrink them as mine did. They are by far the best for baby's skin and the environment. I also do not recommend having only 4 covers. That's how many we have now, and it is not enough. I have also made diapers out of receiving blankets, etc. and covers out of recycled sweaters, and my own laundry detergent. All easy with one baby. Now with two kids, the sewing machine is broken and the eldest steals all pins, snappis, and many diapers to use on her dolls! Desh
Guest guest
Thanks Desh, I was thinking about wool, but until the baby gets here I have no idea if he/she will be allergic. I had a wool sensitivity as a kid, but grew out of it. Do you think 6 covers would be enough? That's what I had been thinking of. Thanks! -Lana > You might consider looking into > wool covers, if your husband won't shrink them as mine did. They are by > far the best for baby's skin and the environment. Guest guest
Hi Lana, I dont know what brands they have in the US but we have one here in Nz called Baby Cheeks. They are 'all in one' style meaning they have the lining and the cover in one nappy, and a pocket that you insert the appropriate booster for absorbancy. They are the best cloth nappies Ive ever used! One size fits all, so you only buy one set from birth to potty training. And they last through the night because you can stuff them with what ever you want. I use hemp and microfibre boosters. Theyre not the most environmentally friendly nappy, theyre not made from organic/natural materials, but they sure are economic and work wonders.
