Guest guest
I went to see my oncologist yesterday for breast CA check up. She asked how my vulva was doing. I told her I was taking amiltryptilene. She said that neurontin is is supposed to help with hot flashes and of course (maybe) the vulva. I have been taking amiltryptilene for around 4.5 months and I really think I am having more comfortable days recently. Anyway, she wants me to go off amitrip and go on Neurontin. I am very reluctant to quit the amitrip. Maybe it is what is helping. I wouldn't mind not be constipated from the amitrip, but certainly don't want to mess up any progress it may have started. I think I am going to go on both.. She will probably be pissed and take the attitude of " if you don't do what I say, I can't help you " . Any thoughts? > >Reply-To: VulvarDisorders >To: VulvarDisorders >Subject: Re: Nurontin and constipation >Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 14:08:49 -0000 > >Hey - > >I have not yet taken any antidepressants for vulvodynia or anything >else- I asked my therapist about them once (as vulvodynia treatment) >and she said that ones that cause constipation and vaginal dryness do >so because they dehydrate you. Guest guest
, You do what you feel is comfortable for you. Let her know how you feel about her recommendation, and let her know that you think that this (the ampitriptylene) might be helping you and what you would like to do and see what she has to say. If doing both helps great. And if your dr gets mad b/c you are not going off of the Amitriptylene then it might be a sign that it's time to find a new dr. I hope that it works out in the end for you my friend. I hope that this helps. ===== Kristy http://www.geocities.com/sokokl/kristyspersonalpage.html Hoping to be a nurse soon but for now just a Medical Secretary who does a lot of learning from reading on the Net, books, my dr(s), as well as sharing my own personal experiences. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, I would talk to the doctor about your concerns. You don't know that she will react that way for sure until you try. Any decent doctor has to realize that we are the ones who have to take control of our health care in order to insure we get the care that we need. No one knows your body better then you do.
