Guest guest
Hi, It is me again. We went to the hospital Thursday after I found out that our labs had dropped even lower from Weds. He refused to eat and drink. They put us on an IV with potassium and sodium. His potassium was up the next morning but everything else was still low. The Dr. was perky and said we could go home and he was stopping the IV. We he still wasn't eating better nor, was he drinking. I said "no"! I questioned the other low levels and told him if he went us home we would still be in the same boat(sinking). He was visible frustrated with me but continued his IV adding extra sodium. He ended up eating well the rest of the day and drinking. For some reason he developed diarrhea when we got fluids in him. They stopped the IV Friday night and we were sent home Sat. morning even though he was refusing to eat again with the IV out. We go back in for more labs Monday. Is there something they should be checking besides the electrolytes? The Dr. said his kidney and liver functions are fine. I just know something is wrong. The only positive thing is no seizures. I am getting no answers from the Dr. or Neuro( he isn't concerned). My question- How long can my child live on 200 calories a day and 8 ounces of water? I obviously have to educate myself or I will go crazy before Nick is 18. If anyone has had any similar difficulties and have some advice I would appreciate it. Well we also got our labs back from the diet and they aren't fine. His creatinine was low .4, Gluclose 53, BUN 4, Calcium 8.8, Potassium 2.9)critical low) and CO2 12.4. No wonder he feels cruddy. Most of those levels indicate a problem with the kidneys, which we just had tested. We are going to get retested to make sure it wasn't the lab. Mean while I will have to add bananas to his diet He only gets 4 grams of carbs a day (1 per meal) I may have to find a supplement too. I found this sight that was helpful. I may print it off and take it in to the Dr. http://www.amarillomed.com/howto.htm His side effects are definitely showing low potassium. Hopefully we can get this all fixed this week.
