Hi,

I think it might be a good idea to change antibiotics. There are kinds of

antibiotics that do not give yeast infections and I'm not certain why your

doctor hasn't prescribed one of those for you. One is called Macrobid.

Another and newer one is called Tequin. I am allergic to most of them

because of allergy to sulfa but even I can take the " Tequin " and not get a

yeast infection or break out in itching, etc.

It is highly likely that you are allergic to something in Cipro since the

reaction was so quick, besides its tendency to give yeast infections. Cipro

always gave me yeast infections and terrible ones.

I am still concerned about why your doctor is giving you one the kind of

antibiotics that will give you yeast infections--especially in light of your

previous vulvar problems. I think that you should ask him about that because

it certainly isn't necessary. What is wrong with him?

Oh, damn, Lynn! That is not good news! I don't have

any answers to your questions, but just want to say I

feel so bad for you! What a way to start the new

year.

You were between a rock and hard place. If you

*don't* get the UTI cleared up, you could end up

really sick, maybe even with a kidney infection. So

you do the sensible thing, and it makes your vulvar

burning worse. That is the pits!! I have gotten

absolutely *paranoid* about antibiotics. I have a

tooth that's bothering me, and I told my husband

they'll have to tie me down and force the pills down

my throat before I take any antibiotics " just in case "

there's a tooth infection. Here I am, haven't even

gone to the dentist yet, and I'm having paranoid

fantasies about the damn antibiotics. I guess we

vulvodynia patients have every reason to be scared,

though.

Lynn, I hope your redness and burning clear up really

soon, as well as your UTI. I hadn't heard of Cipro

causing burning. ARRRRRGHGHGHGHGH!

Just wanted to mention that I have heard several real

HORROR stories about Macrobid - vulvodynia either

starting or getting much worse after its use. Which

just goes to show how nearly *any* antibiotic can

cause a reaction among some of us. :(

Whenever I take an antibiotic I also eat yogurt along with it, otherwise it

screws up my digestive tract and causes diarrhea, burning and generally hell.

Also the same thing happens to my vulva area. Just spreads all over.

When I get my " annual bladder infection " I always ask the doctor for something

which I can use with yogurt because the yogurt seems to prevent all those side

effects. The last time she prescribed Cotrim. I have taken it before and it

did not bother me.

Lynn,

If your weight gain in adult onset you might do some research on Cushings

Syndrome. One of the symptoms of this problem is thin fragile skin. I

would not be suprised to see some Cushings sufferers here with vulvar

problems. It is another one of those disorders that doctors seem to avoid

diagnosing with a vengence. My grandmother was very overweight but after

her death I realized she had classic Cushings symptoms. She had mostly

abdominal weight gain and hardly ate anything. She suffered from bloating.

She had fagile skin and some acne pimples developed in her 50s. She broke

her wrist twice and hip once (fagile bones). I say a picture of her the

year before I was born and I did not recognize her. The weight gain changed

her looks so much it was dramatic. This is also a part of Cushings. Just a

thought. Maybe someone will get some useful info out of this.

Hi there Lynn,

I hope you are doing better since you started the cipro. In answer to your

question, yes you can get a yeast infection that fast. In fact Cipro or

Leviquin almost always starts up a yeast flare up with me within 2 or 3

days. I have LS too, and my doctor seems to think that we are just more

susceptable to yeast with our skin disorder.
