Greetings All

Thanks for the information on the 'Newborn on Flight'. I have compiled

them all, and given to the parents, and they are grateful for all the

wisdom, and directives. Thanks.

Now, they called me just now, and were concerned about some

sneezing/coughing/mucus in the baby. They said their 3 year old boy

have fever and flu in the weekend, and is doing better now, but they

fear he passed some to the mom and the baby. Especially, with the

travel ahead, and also desiring to avoid any doctor's medications etc,

they are trying their best to follow healthy lifestyle, and diet etc.

Any input on what do you do to help a 10 day old from catching the

cold/flu etc. I realize a lot of it depends on the mom's health. The

mom is committed and want to eat more probiotic foods the coming days

and weeks. In term of geography/climate where they are now, they are in

LA area, which is not very warm and also is not too cold in the winter,

but cold enough for them in the nights(60F max/45F min) etc. They use

humidifer in the nights.

Any input will be gratefully relayed to them

THanks

-Dan.

This baby has fever now, following the cold. Running at 101F.

The MD says to bring the baby to the ER once the fever hits 102F.

What would you do for an infant with fever? Does anyone have any

experience with this.

The mom also still has the cold, & is on a probiotics and taking the

CLO,Organ meats, bone broths etc. The baby is only nursed.

Thanks

-Dan.

My son got sick too around that age but it was due to me not being able to

breast feed much and having nurses in and out of the house taking care of

me. I got a bad cold and he caught it from me. He was also on those

horrible store formulas for the first week while we got set up to do the NT

formula so that didn't help.

I just had to wait it out but he once he was on the NT formula and we added

a bit extra probiotics and vitamin C, careful not to give him the runs. It

seemed to help.

Fevers are really dangerous in infants so we watched that closely but he

never got a bad one. I did let it run its course though and didn't suppress

it.

I didn't like taking him to my Doctor's for my check-ups on my wound so I

can't imagine flying him to another country. If I were her I'd max out my

Vitamin C and probiotic intake hoping it would get through to my milk? And

I'm sure others have even better ideas.

It's terrifying when new babies get sick. I've had several sleepless

nights from this, but everytime they fought it off on their own with

no need for medical intervention. Even when you bring them in

(exposing them to more germs from all the other sick babies) the

doctors usually look them over and say to take them home and moniter

them. Keeping the baby upright as much as possible will help because

the mucus clogs up their noses and they can't breathe through their

mouths well at that age. Like wear the baby in a baby bjorn as much

as possible. Or put him/her in a bouncy seat where the head is

elevated.

There are times when babies need medical attention, but not as many

as new parents think. LOL

A fever is the body's natural response to infection. I treat infants

with homeopathics, breastmilk, a cool washloth or tepid bath, and time.

Sometimes a squirt of colic or other medicinal tea for an older baby.

For colds with fever I would use Aconite 6x or 30c, but at a later stage

beladonna 6x, pulsatilla and sulfur. There are also some packaged cold

homeopathic tablets at the health food store, but really if they don't

know about that system of medicine already, trying it on a 10 day old

will seem dangerous. Also sit in a steamy bath, or with a vaporizer, and

eucalyptus and mint oil on the vaporizer- the active ingredients in

Vicks. Breastmilk up the nose can really relieve congestion, and gets

probiotics up there. I'm sure that sounds nuts to the formula feeders,

but it was in many baby instruction books. Any probiotic mom takes

should be bifidus dominant. Mom also needs to watch out for cold

medicines. Many OTCs and herbals hurt milk supply and or inhibit let

down.

Do eucalyptus and mint oil interfere with the homeopathic remedies? Also, any

certain mint oil?

Thanks,

Kathy

I may be wrong, but I believe that a 10 day old newborn can still be

in danger from a bacterial infection due to bacteria present at

birth, whether in hospital or not. Please follow your doctor's

advice. Hopefully, its just a virus that will run its course.

I hadn't considered that. Since you are only inhaling eucaltptus steam

(with or without mint- the euc. seems most important) I don't think they

would interfere. There are many other remedies for specific cold

syptoms- such as hepar calc sulph, etc. www.abchomeopathy.com and

www.remedysource.com are good res

I don't think that inhaling eucalyptus steam would interfere with the

remedy. I don't know that the kind of mint matters, we usually just use

eucalyptus. There are many other homeopathic cold remedies, like hepar

calc sulp, etc. www.abchomeopathy.com and www.remedyresource.com have

some good information
