Colace causes damage to the liver???? Do you have any articles on this?? Mike's ALT's (liver function tests) are already high I cant believe that she prescribed this if this is true!?!?! I will stop using it immediately! Thanks so much for the heads up!!!!!

Hey Jenn

Prescription to nutritional healing by Dr. Balch (available even in walgreens) and

a very very good book I might add!!!

page 213 on constipation...and I quote (Im sure Dr. Balch wont mind)

Under the heading Stool softeners:

such as mineral oila nd docusate sodium, soften fecal matter so that it passes through the intestines more easily. They should not be used on a regular bases, because they can have other effects on the body. Mineral oil can damage the lungs if inhaled, and it reduces the absorption of fat-soluable vitamins. Docusate Sodium (found in Colace and Dialose) may increase the toxcity of other drugs taken at the same time, and may cause liver damage to occur.

Always second guess your Dr.!!!!!!! I would suggest a google search and read

the warnings yourself

Great! Thanks for the heads up - I have stopped using it for Mike for

now. The neuro said she would look into it for me - we had appts

today. I cant believe that she would even put him on that without

warning me about it since his liver function tests are already elevated!

Sheesh! Gonna have to start doing more research!

Thanks again!
