Guest guest
It's my understanding that the black cherry and lemon lime do not have the maltodextrin. I think also the magic twist changing cherry. These are the only ones that are considered " keto friendly " because of the maltodextrin. Don't know about splenda -- we only use stevia to sweeten.--D __________________________________________________
Guest guest
We were told to only use these brands of koolaid also -- the black cherry and changing cherry -- the ones that didn't have maltodextrin. Also, note that the larger packs of these same types sometimes have some other ingredients in them. For example, the magic changing cherry in the single pack doesn't have any no-no's in it, but the large container that you can make a lot of it from has sucrose or something like that... so just look carefully at your " other ingredients " . We were told not to use stuff with Splenda in it because they really didn't know the effects of it for keto kids yet... so we haven't. Guest guest
For us the small packets of koolaid - the ones that you have to add sugar to - are free for him and we dont have to count any of that. (I am not supposed to use artificially sweetened koolaid for Mike) I was told by my dietician to use only Sugar Twin Liquid sweetener and not splenda. I guess it is different for everyone. Jenn jscooptions@... wrote: Who knows about Splenda-it also has some cornstarch or maltodextrin-they say 1 cup has 24 carbs. but again could we count them? Maybe you do it out there, but check the ingedients on the packs you are buying, even though not " sweetned " most have some form of carb, either something ending in " ose " or maledextrin or something. Some kids could handle malodextrin in small amounts, some couldn't. even you don't got perfect seizure control, its worth getting rid of to see what happens
Guest guest
I just read the label and THERE IS SUGAR IN MIKE'S KOOLAID!! Ok sorry for that but I am really ticked off!! I mean how come I wasnt told this by the dietician?? This isnt some kind of word that a person cant identify I mean it actually says "sugar" right there in the ingredients - why didnt I notice this before?? I know why - cuz I was just going with what the dietician told me!! Well that is STRIKE TWO!!! Mike has koolaid three times a day and NO WONDER we are still having problems with him!!! Ok - now that I am a bit calmer and can focus - could this be part of the reason we are not getting good seizure control. Thanks for the heads up! What brand do you use and where do you get it from? This is his favorite flavor and I havent been able to get him to drink anything other than this and water. I need to switch it as soon as possible. Thanks again! Guest guest
You might try the Keto-Kooler drinks or the Stevita Stevia drinks instead. They have grape and cherry flavors and others and lin really likes them. I have never been able to find them in any stores though, have to order them over the internet. Guest guest
Could you post the site addy please? I need to get something quickly for mike since we wont be able to use the kool-aid anymore. P.S. My apologies for my "rant" in my earlier post. Thanks to all who helped me discover this and maybe we will get more seizure control with this stuff out of his diet. Thanks again! Guest guest
Glad I could help! What I do is get some of my nice keto-friends in the US to buy and mail to me. The only one I have ever gotten for Jess is black cherry - its koolaid brand. There are a couple of other keto-friendly flavours as people have wrote but the people who mailed to me couldn't seem to find. Put out a call to the list and see if any neighbourly soul steps forward heppner1@... wrote: I just read the label and THERE IS SUGAR IN MIKE'S KOOLAID!! Guest guest
Jenn, I too gave Rebekah the lemon lime koolaid.....she was fine the first day and then the following night she seizured all night and into the morning....took until that afternoon for the sugar to get out of her system..we had to skip a meal to get her ketones back....it was wild...I'll NEVER do that again...who would have believed that there would be that much sugar in unsweetened koolaid!!!!!!!! We obviously must have different koolaid here in Canada then the States! Guest guest
Here is where I got the stevita drinks last time: http://www.myvitanet.com/stevendrinmi.html They were the cheapest I found at $7.46 each, shipping was $4.95 They don't seem to sell the Keto-Kooler though. The Keto-Kooler was $16.95 at www.1800dietfoods http://www.1800dietfoods.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD & Store_Code=0001 & Product_Code=KT60 Kathy (Mom to lin, 3 1/2 years old, idiopathic generalized epilepsy) Re: maltodextrin & modified cornstarch in Koolaid & splenda Could you post the site addy please? Guest guest
The thing I cant believe is that when I talked to the dietician here - she said that she trained elsewhere in canada for this diet and the people there were going to the US for things as well including the koolaid - why didnt she tell me about that in the first place?? And why when it is the same company is it so much different in the states than in Canada?? Jenn We obviously must have different koolaid here in Canada then the States! Guest guest
Also, 's done really well with Celestial Seasonings herbal teas. The Strawberry Kiwi and Wildberry Zinger have no carbs. It actually tastes really good and I don't even sweeten it for her!--D --- Kathy Greenwood wrote: > You might try the Keto-Kooler drinks or the Stevita > Stevia drinks instead.
