Guest guest Posted June 27, 2007 Report Share Posted June 27, 2007 HC directs govt to install CD4 machines The Imphal Free Press IMPHAL, Jun 26: The Gauhati High Court, Imphal bench has directed the concerned authorities of the Manipur government to install adequate CD4 count machines in every district of the state. The direction of the court stated that all the necessary steps should be taken up by the respondents, the agencies of the state government working for the HIV/AIDS, as far as possible for making available adequate number of CD4 testing machines in all districts in the state so that testing and treatment can be made available in the districts. The direction of the court was given in response to the writ petition filed at the intiative of the Human Righs Law Network, Manipur unit by Leimapokpam Deepak Singh and its general secretary representing the Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+), Maibam Paikhomba Meitei, advocate of the Human rights law Network, Manipur. The petitioners when putting up the PIL stated the grievances faced by the needy persons and prayed to the court for directions to the concerned authorities for provision of at least two CD4-count machines in the four ART roll out centres and setting up of a committee. The committee should consist of at least two positive persons from the network of petitioners and hospital doctors to look into the proper functioning of the machines installed at present and submit quarterly report to the high court.
