Guest guest
Right, it appears does indeed have another bout of chicken pox, explains a lot about what has been happening lately. The last dose in May (mild spots wise, but catastrophic seizure wise) he had, he was not on the kgd, so I am hoping that this one will be helped with a bit of control diet wise. Yesterday we got a blood testing ketone kit to trial, measures bhb levels, and I am trying to check correlation between info I have, and the excerpt posted by Jeanette, originally from le. That says seizure control is more likely when blood bhb levels are greater than 4mmol/L, and that urine ketones of 4+ (160mmol/L) were found on the dipstick when bhb levels exceeded 2mmol/L. Therefore, I would assume from this, that if they say the ideal bhb level is 4 or above, that the urine level should be above 160mmol/L for optimum control. Our ketostix have in teeny print ; mg/dl trace=5, small=15, mod=40, large=80, and 160, and underneath mmol/L trace=0.5, small=1.5, mod=4, large=8 and 16 (ie, decimal point moved) My dilemma is this, the excerpt says 3 to 4+ is equivalent to 80-160 mmol/L. Our ketostix, if I am interpreting it correctly, do not read the same, our '4' is equivalent to 40mmol/L, which is only moderate ketones. (We have been told the ideal ketone level is a fairly constant 8, which usually only has for one urine reading during the day, a lot lower in the morning, and 16+ by bedtime.) Am I missing something? What is the 'mg/dl referring to on the ketostix container. Are the two lines on the ketostix container the same sorts of figures as I read others on the list are referring to? Does anyone have any more info re the correlation between blood and urine levels. 's bhb level this morn was only 1.6, and had only gone up to 1.8 tonight. His urine level for the night test, done the same time as the blood, was only 'mod', ie, 4, or 40, depending on which level you use on the container. This is very unusual for him, picking the virus has lowered the ketones, but also, because he is so ill, he only manged two meals today. We split breakfast exactly in two, and the same with dinner, so he has actually eaten 4 times today, but only half at each meal time. Is any of this making sense. Hill, mother to in NZ.
