Guest guest
Hi folks, I've been getting encouraging news that the mandatory fluoridation bill in PA isn't likely to go anywhere. Louisiana is much closer to getting a mandate, however, and really needs help. Please review this note and take a moment to email their governor and ask him to veto the legislation there. Thanks, Mike Ewall, ActionPA 215-743-4884 catalyst@... http://www.actionpa.org ----------------------------- Date: Sat, 21 Jun 2008 11:43:13 -0400 Subject: Urgent: Please help us in Louisiana From: Connett <paul@...> Dear All Could I ask you to give just a few minutes to help in our effort to fight off mandatory fluoridation in Louisiana. We have at least to be seen to fight their relentless crusade to fluoridate. Louisiana isn't just a brush fire – this is part of an effort to force things through large jurisdictions, where they can mobilize big lobbying power. On this they are on a roll: Queensland Southern California (followed by San Diego) Nebraska Now Louisiana Pennsylvania in the works- but being fought hard Noises again in Arkansas I know our chances of getting a veto from the Governor of LA are small but even if there is a remote chance I believe we have to try. On this we need your help. We have had a fairly large response from the Professional signing the Professionals' Statement (180 out of 1700) but we need more people like yourselves to kick in. All this needs from you is to copy and paste the statement below and add a one or two sentences explaining clearly who you are and your involvement in this issue. I know you are all crazily busy on many things but this will only take a few minutes and it could make all the difference. Send the amended message to: Jindal's Chief of Staff (Timmy Teepell) and Executive assistant (Sara Olcott) and a legislative aid who assures me he is getting messages to the right office: timmy.teepell@... AT la.gov (all three) sarah.olcott@... legisstudent@... And please bcc: paul@... AT fluoridealert.org catalyst@... AT actionap.org Dear Governor Jindal, My name is --------------- and I .........(give your credential and explain your involvement in the fluoridation issue and where you are from). This is not the appropriate time for me to try to convince you that fluoridation is a bad idea but rather in the interest of fairness to veto this bill. This bill will impact every man, woman and child in Louisiana and most of them were unaware that this bill was being slipped quietly through both the Senate and the House. Only now, are some citizens finding out about it. Thus, I respectfully request that you veto this bill and recommend that it be taken up in the next session so that both the public and the legislators are able to hear both sides of this issue which may impact them and their children for years to come. In the interim period maybe the state could sponsor public hearings so that experts could testify from both sides. I would be happy to part of such a process. Governor, ultimately the health and well being of the citizens of Louisiana rest on your shoulders. With the whole world watching I hope that you have the courage to act wisely on this and use your veto power to ensure that whether mandatory fluoridation goes through or not, it is done fairly and openly and to be seen to be done fairly and openly.
