Guest guest
I hear they taste like the old space food, IOW a lot like cardboard.....IMHO you'd be better off buying real chocolate [cocoa] and making your own. Katy Brezger >>>Anyone have any thoughts/input on these? Thought about buying some as a gift for my wife since we have two small kids and I would love for her to have a healthy snack that we don't have to worry about making on occasion. Do they taste good? Are they actually nutritious? Guest guest
They are one of the best bars I have tried and " best " isn't a rating of taste but taste combined with a lower sugar content than other bars and better ingredients. Many of the bars are so high in sugar and crappy ingredients. I used to get standard process bars and the taste was horrible. I tired Larabars but the sugar content is pretty high. There some other bars I tried that I found out about when I went to the conference in 2005. They were made with agave nectar and tasted too sugary for me and were too low in protein. I have been advised against eating any bars but being low in blood sugar, I always like to keep one in my purse in case of an emergency. Mercola's bars are expensive though. > > Anyone have any thoughts/input on these? Guest guest
They weren't as good as a Green and Blacks chocolate bar but for a health bar they were VERY good. I loved them. Wish I could afford them. Guest guest
We thought they were pretty good to for being a protein type bar. I was expecting yuck. My kids thought they were normal chocolate type candy bars. I too iwsh we could afford to buy them on a regular basis to keep on hand as they did fill in the void of a sweet treat. julia > > > > They weren't as good as a Green and Blacks chocolate bar but for a health > bar they were VERY good. Guest guest
Each bar has only 5 grams of protein, so they don't function as an alternative to protein bars as most people know them.
Guest guest
i probably wouldn't buy these myself because the second ingredient is fruit juices--which i'm assuming here are concentrated. this is high fructose...posing the same problems as corn syrup. if the juices in these bars are not concentrated, then it may be ok, but juices themselves ususally aren't recommended unless fermented. > > Anyone have any thoughts/input on these? Guest guest
I cann't believe Mercola would promote anything with high fructose corn syrup. And why is that you think fruit juice = high fructose corn syrup. I don't see that leap? Kathy ---- " sabine. Guest guest
kathy wrote to me personally, but i see that her question is here too so i'll answer it again. i am not saying that mercola's product has corn syrup in it or that fruit juice = corn syrup. the issue i am presenting is a concern for consuming product high in fructose. if it indeed has fruit juice concentrate in it, fruit juice concentrate itself contains a lot of fructose. from what i've read and researched, high fructose products not only include corn syrup, but also refined fructose, concentrated fruit juice, and agave nectar. fruit is best processed by the body when it is in whole form and that unfermented juices in excess, concentrates, and refined fructose from fruit have harmful effects on the body. maybe there isn't enough in the bar to be concerned with (if in fact it is a concentrate). i just personally wouldn't by it for myself because of the doubt this poses for me based on the information i have read about fructose in these forms. as i said before, if it is just fruit juice and not concentrate it is probably ok since that would mean even less fructose (though too, i'm not really big on xylitol either since it's not a whole form product). of course you don't have to take my word on any of this for it is my own opinion and understanding i have on the subject thus far. ....personally, i think there are better sweeteners. > > I cann't believe Mercola would promote anything with high fructose corn syrup. > > And why is that you think fruit juice = high fructose corn syrup.
