Guest guest
Dear All, Finally the firm and consistent stand taken by Dr.Lait Dandona has been 'vindicated'. The extrapolation of the scientific evidence generated by the community based study at Guntur has been corroborated by the NFHS-III and other inputs from estimations by the experts(people and organizations)for the national figures too. Incidentally Lalit was my batch-mate as an undergraduate at the AIIMS,New Delhi and is a close friend. I still remember that during our recent meetings at Hyderabad and Delhi last year we talked about the issues and perceptions of the others on them. It was after the International conference at Canada and the publication of the research article that one used to come across comments like 'the study is good but one cannot 'generalize'(whatever that means) at the national level. We definitely need sound and scientific database for all our interventions/activities. I would, however, reiterate my request for not allowing any room for complacency or permitting a reduction of sustained efforts as the numbers have practically nothing to do with them. The vulnerabilities, inter alia, have to be addressed effectively. Best wishes, Dr. Rajesh Gopal, MD Joint Director, Gujarat State AIDS Control Society (GSACS), O/1 Block, New Mental Hospital Complex, Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
